As I mentioned earlier in the week, this is different… We found out on Tuesday that over the next couple weeks, beginning August 3rd at 6:00am, a short section of route 88 north of the shop will be closed (between Hidden Hollow Road and Beach Drive/Cardox Road). Local traffic (that’s all of us!) will be able to reach the shop from the south. Sorry to say, that means those coming from the north may have to drive in a bit of a circle to get here. I wish I could guarantee posted detour signs! There are some really funny sewists in the crowd - I can’t thank you enough for making me giggle (your quips regarding the situation are really clever!) during a week when pulling my hair out might be a more normal reaction!

This Saturday (8-1-26) those in our beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. We will review information about things going on in the shop and then move on to the next block in the series. Lots of triangles in the block this time, thus lots of technique tips! Things are likely to be a bit crowded here, as the Sidewalk Celebration begins at 10:00 on Saturday… I fear there may be a lot of people in the parking lot - please be careful!!!

Our summer sidewalk celebration is legendary! Guests come from all over to snag amazing quilt world goodies at unbelievable prices! From yardage, to fat quarters, to shop samples, and goodie baskets, the deals are not to be missed. Not to worry if you can’t be here first thing - we promise there will be wonderful quilty items, even later in the day!

QC Pillowcase Race

August 1st - 15th

The race begins on Saturday - are you ready?! During our annual pillowcase race we stitch pillowcases, made with 100% cotton fabric, in child friendly prints. During the race you bring in your finished pillowcases and then, via Ryan’s Case for Smiles, each goes to a child facing a life threatening illness at Children’s Hospital. We would love to have you rev up your sewing machine - every single pillowcase makes a difference! As with other races, there are prizes to be won, but the real win is knowing that your stitching will brighten the room of a young patient!

Gorgeous fabrics have been crossing the threshold at an amazing rate. I wish I could share every new collection, but will focus just on Wisps On the Wind today. The group’s contemporary prints are the work of Steve Baker for Ink & Arrow (a division of QT Fabrics). You will find prints featuring cattails and dandelions in teal blue and cinnamon brown, complimented by others featuring circles, wavy lines, and a subtle cross-hatch design. The sixteen prints would be wonderful all together in a controlled scrap style quilt, or used for other home decor, clothing, or bags. They really make a most classy statement.

You might want to check out the newest Leila Gardunia foundation paper pads when you next visit. This time she is sharing foundation papers for 25 different pieced diamond blocks (with foundation papers for four of each design included!). The block pads come in two different sizes - finishing either 4” x 7” or 2” x 3 1/2”. I’ve worked Leila’s other designs with prints - maybe this time I will try them in solids so they look like the foundation pad covers… They may look complicated, but really are great fun to stitch!
