My sweetie went off with buddies to play golf for several days. One player picked up another, and then headed to our house. They then loaded everything into my sweetie’s truck, parked the other driver's car under our deck, and drove off. The friend's car is very nice, fancy, some might even say posh… It took me about thirty seconds to realize there was going to be an issue. We have amazing flower pots up on the deck. They are packed with flowers, herbs, ferns,... Of course, they are grouped and arranged by color, and height - much like displays in the shop. All the pots need lots of water to survive… This week we have become the house with the pots arranged in a single row all the way around the very edge of the deck. I have been watering by holding the can at an angle - there is no way I’m going to water that car! Do you think the neighbors wonder about me sometimes?...

Wishing you easy gardening, and lots of stitching this week,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (7-18-26) those in our applique Saturday  sampler program will meet at 9:00am. We will begin by looking at new fabrics that would be perfect for applique projects, and by discussing events that will be happening in the shop in the next weeks. We will then move on to the next block in the series - another colorful, bold bloom. This time the block includes circles - I figure you’re not all that surprised…

Also on Saturday, we will host two different 2026 block of the month program sessions. Consider joining us at 12:00pm if you are in the group that has been working on the foundation paper pieced blocks from the Starry series. We will share our completed blocks and discuss setting options. If you are working on the Midnight Sparkle quilt, you are invited to stop in at 2:00pm for instruction in the techniques needed to work the quilts’ applique blocks.

QC Sidewalk Celebration!!!!

Saturday ~ August 1st ~ 10:00am-4:00pm

Sunday ~ August 2nd ~ 12:00pm-4:00pm

Our summer sidewalk celebration is legendary! Guests come from all over to snag amazing quilt world goodies at unbelievable prices! From yardage, to fat quarters, to shop samples, and goodie baskets, the deals are not to be missed. Please pull out your QC 2026 date book and note the new event dates (cross out the end of July dates and add the event to the August page please!) - maybe share the info with your friends, too?!

How about a little challenge? Free Spirit is marking their 25th anniversary with a block party. You can join the fun by creating a 12 1/2” x 12 1/2” block entirely from Free Spirit fabric, being sure to include the color purple. Use one of the patterns they have created for the challenge, or create something unique. 25 blocks will be selected from the entries to create a 25th Anniversary Commemorative Quilt to be auctioned to support Nest (“a nonprofit empowering artisans worldwide through creativity and opportunity”). Selected makers will win a limited edition anniversary tote stuffed with quilty goodies (valued at over $650.00!) - I’ve seen one of the totes - talk about impressive! The entry deadline is October 30,2026 - don’t wait - start today! Head to www.freespiritfabrics.com for details.

2026 QC Pillowcase Race

August 1st - 15th

A race, no running involved, how can you go wrong?! During our annual pillowcase race we stitch pillowcases made with 100% cotton fabric in child friendly prints. During the race you bring in your finished pillowcases, and then each goes to a child suffering a life threatening illness at Children’s Hospital. We would love to have you rev up your sewing machine - every single pillowcase makes a difference! As with other races, there are prizes to be won, but the real win is knowing that your stitching will brighten the room of a young patient!

We are currently sharing our Christmas in July efforts (maybe thinking wintery thoughts will make the heat a little more bearable?!). There are new holiday fabric displays throughout the shop - from the entrance to the cutting table. There are also new samples in several of the displays. I love Heather’s version of Cabin Cozy, from the “Holly Jolly 5-Yard Quilts” book. She has worked the design, one of the newest from Fabric Cafe, in Holiday Spirit and Christmas Gatherings prints from Riley Blake. The traditional red and green combination makes for a beautiful, classic beauty.

Book $19.99, Fabric $13.00 to $13.95 per yard
