Another trip to a shore was in store for us last week. Everyone in that setting seems to head to bed as soon as the sun sets. I figure as soon as it’s quiet, I can pull out a book (peacefully going through quilting books is a great way to relax!). The first night, a screeching sound interrupted my book. As I jumped up, my sweetie sleepily asked whose phone it was… Certainly not a phone! I managed to find the smoke detector that was making the sound - maybe set off by a bug, as there definitely was no smoke or fire. As I was working out how to get to it - drag a chair, climb on a bed - my sister-in-law appeared. She sprang up onto the bed and wrestled it from the ceiling. Unbelievably, there was no way to pull the battery. Without skipping a beat, she said, “into the freezer it goes”. Yes, she most certainly is a genius! Two days later, I returned from the grocery store and tucked things into the freezer. Those things must have been just warm enough to thaw the smoke detector. You would have loved watching the two of us trying to defend our sanity, trying to explain what the, once again noisy, object was doing there!

Wishing you a week of creative solutions,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (7-11-26) those in our beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. We will share shop news, and show and tell, and then focus on to the next block in the series. This month we will discuss block structure and design, before moving on to half square triangle construction information. Don’t forget to bring your block from last month - we love seeing them!

QC Sidewalk Celebration!!!!

Please note ~ date change!!!

Saturday ~ August 1st ~ 10:00am-4:00pm

Sunday ~ August 2nd ~ 12:00pm-4:00pm

Our summer sidewalk celebration is legendary! Guests come from all over to snag amazing quilt world goodies at amazing prices! From yardage, to fat quarters, to shop samples, and goodie baskets, the deals are not to be missed. Please pull out your QC 2026 date book and note the new event dates (cross out the end of July dates and add the event to the August page please!) - maybe share the info with your friends, too?!

Fat quarter rolls are always a hit at our Sidewalk Celebration - who can resist when they’re priced so low?! But I wonder if you are prepared with ideas for quilts to make with the iconic quilt world cut… “Fat Quarters By The Dozen” caught my attention several weeks ago. The book showcases twelve quilt patterns - each constructed with a stack of twelve fat quarters, background fabric, and in some cases, accent fabric. I’m honestly not sure when I last loved every single quilt in a book. There are fairly traditional pieces, as well as more contemporary works. Modern cutting and piecing techniques mean that the quilts can be constructed very efficiently. I’m going to begin the Halo quilt with the Hearth and Home collection later today - we’ll see if I can get one block done to show on Saturday!!!

Book $24.95, Fabric $14.99 per yard

Christmas in July at QC

July 13th ~ 18th!

By the beginning of the coming week it will look very festive here! New holiday prints, and even fun projects made with the prints, will be found in different spots in the shop (like our lovely Merry Manor version of Daydreamer - shown here) . There are lots of marvelous fabrics this year - sure to inspire fun decorations and gifts. We have a little present ready to share when you visit (a pre-cut kit for a pieced tree themed ornament or pincushion) and we are getting the event door prize wrapped now - don’t forget to enter when you stop in next week!

QC Featherweight Club

Saturday ~ July 11th ~ 10:30am

Do you own a Singer Featherweight machine? Do you wish you knew more about the machine and how to use it? This club may be exactly what you need! We present history first, and then technique pointers (focusing on machine tension this meeting), and finish up with a project you can make during the session. Lots to learn and see - we would love to have you join us!

Have I mentioned there are new fabrics everywhere here?! Fans of ebond will find her new Punc*t collection near the center of the shop. She describes the group, begun during her letterpress residency, as an “exploration of the marks that move language: punctuation”. Oh the power of those marks! In this case, you will discover the incredible graphic power, and color power (from orange, to gold, lime, blue, white, and black) that can be found on “simple” fabric. Debbie has used every one of the sixteen collection prints in her version of Villa Rosa’s Limerick - a most impressive statement, for sure!

Fabric $13.29 per yard, pattern $2.00
