Several family members traveled to a warm, sunny spot last week. By warm I mean hot… On the second day of her stay, one person came into the kitchen with a pair of jeans and scissors, kitchen scissors. The group was a bit stunned, wondering if what she was thinking was a good idea. I realized she knew exactly how to proceed, as she would “modify” her clothes as a kid, with mostly good results. After making the cuts, with the wrong kind of scissors, and rolling the cut edge up twice, she had perfectly fitting shorts. She then asked if our hosts wanted to save the cut pieces of denim. To say she got a strange look would be an understatement, so in the trash the pieces went. Later in the day, while grabbing lunch, they saw empty plastic buckets piled against the establishment wall. One member of the group realized they would be the perfect size for the turtle rescue program she is part of. The restaurant graciously handed over two. When they got home it was time to remedy the fact that the buckets had no handles. Hmmm - what to use to make some? You guessed - the denim was pulled from the trash, very creatively cut and tied for perfect handles!
I figure we all learned our hosts need better scissors, and no scraps should ever be pitched!
Wishing you a most creative week,
Mary Beth

This Saturday (6-20-26) those in our applique Saturday Sampler program will meet at 9:00am. The session will be a little shorter this month, lasting until only 9:45, but will still be packed with information and inspiration. Be sure to bring your block from last month, and any questions you have. We think you’re going to like the next block in your “Window Garden”!

Comfort Cases Maker Reception
Saturday ~ June 27th ~ 1:00pm
Several weeks back we dropped off 186 quilts at Comfort Cases in Maryland! You are amazing - your quilts are wonderful! From the young man that helped ferry the bins inside, to the woman that greeted us - everyone was most impressed, and so very grateful. Each quilt, your special creations, will go to a child entering the foster care system. We would like to thank you for your efforts with a special reception in the shop on Saturday, June 27th. We will share stories, goodies, and thank you gifts - we so hope you will be able to attend. Please RSVP by June 24th

Simple Whatnots Club
Thursday ~ June 25th ~ 10:30am
I’ve begun planning, and even stitching a bit, for next week's Simple Whatnots Club meeting. This month we will share the next steps in the series quilts being offered this year, and we will move on to the next 2026 petite quilt. Star Drifts, the petite quilt, is composed of eight pointed star blocks, and a pieced four-patch alternate block. The alternate block is quite interesting - it’s made up of rectangles rather than, the far more common, squares. I’m contemplating changing the colors this time. How about very light stars on dark blue backgrounds? You’ll have to join us for the meeting to see how the little quilt turns out! Fee $6.00 per session (fee includes pattern)

Christmas in July at QC!
July 13th to 18th
Holiday fabric collections continue to stream into the shop. Just today we received groups from Moda, Benartex, and Riley Blake. As you might expect, we have projects in mind for almost every single piece! We are currently stitching up a storm so we can host a wintery showcase in the middle of summer! When you stop in mid July you will find holiday quilts, pillows, table runners and gift items - each something you might want to make as a gift or decoration. Of course, there will be a chance to win a holiday themed package, and even a little gift just for stopping to take it all in - a fun distraction from the heat of the summer!

Not all the new arrivals are holiday prints. Heart & Home, new from Henry Glass, is quite lovely. Janet Nesbitt’s prints have a classic feel in deep rich reds, rose, and cream. While they certainly could be used for holiday projects, they are technically an “everyday” collection. They would easily work in with your Kim Diehl and Jo Morton pieces - expanding the color just a little, making for perfect borders and binding options!
