Those of you that know me may know just how much trouble I have keeping track of my glasses… At one point, they were lost in the shop for three weeks (I found them by chance down behind a row of bolts!). I’m usually pretty good with them when out in the world. I stepped off a plane, made a quick stop at the hotel, and then headed right to the huge H&H show last week. I had filled the day with a series of lectures presented by industry celebrities, and up and coming designers. I started with a quick check in at the registration desk, and then set out to find the first session’s classroom. After wandering in the convention center for a bit, unable to find the correct classroom, I realized I no longer had my glasses… Making a conscious effort not to panic, I started retracing my steps - not at the registration desk (three really nice people looked for them), not in the security office (really nice security officer said he would have a whole pile of lost glasses by the end of the day…), not at the concierge (she was so very nice - told me to just go with the flow and they would turn up). As it turns out, she was correct. I had set them down when I picked up the class schedule - they were folded neatly on the podium awaiting my return. What we realized later was that our H&H adventure had been filled with truly wonderful people. We saw amazing quilt world goodies (and of course, those things will find their way into the shop!), but the people made the week!

Hoping you meet amazing people this week, and hoping your glasses remain where they are supposed to be,

Mary Beth

One of us forgot, when agreeing to the 2026 Southwestern PA Shop Hop hours, that they would conflict with our Saturday Sampler applique session (obviously, that somebody is me!). Thus, this Saturday (5-16-26) we will host a “grab and go” version of the sampler program. You may stop in at any time during the day to show your completed block from last month, and to pick up a kit, and handout for the May block. Keep in mind, due to the hop, the hours on Saturday will be from 9:00am to 5:00pm - stop in at any point. We can’t wait to see your block from last month!

Upcoming club meetings ~

QC Featherweight Club

Saturday ~ May 16th ~ 10:30am

Our next Featherweight Club meeting is this Saturday. We’ll share a little more history, a little more machine use information, and a new project made on, and for, your Featherweight. This is the perfect opportunity to put your treasured machine in use - learn a little, stitch a little, laugh a little! Fee $10.00 (please stop in to pick up a supply list for the session)

Christmas Club

Wednesday ~ May 20th ~ 10:30am

I realize Christmas may be the last thing you are thinking about at this point (although the new Christmas fabric collections have started to roll in!), but wouldn’t it be nice to have holiday gifts ready before Christmas eve?! This group stitches throughout the year, making items that could be wonderful gifts. We share show and tell, several projects, and a little fabric gift each session. Consider joining us. Fee $6.00

I hope you are enjoying your Southwestern PA Shop Hop! We want to thank everyone who is participating - I hope you are having as much fun as we are! You have until Saturday at 5:00pm to turn in your passport - no matter how many stops you have gotten to. You never know - your passport could be pulled for one of the wonderful hop prizes!

The four state, July and August hop is another chance to see fabulous quilt shops, a chance to gather little treats, and a chance to win more quilty prizes. I would hate for you ever to be bored…

The local food pantry has seen an overwhelming increase in need over the last months. In an attempt to garner support for them quickly, we have decided to offer you a deal that will benefit them! During the coming week (May 18th-23rd) we are offering a special price on the fruit and veggie fabrics in our special display. They will be offered at $10.00 per yard (regular price $12.75 to $12.95) with 100% of the purchase price (your donation) going directly to the Finleyville Food Pantry (please plan to use cash or a check to the Food Pantry for these fabrics).

How are your Comfort Cases quilts coming? You still have a bit of time to finish your 30” x 40”, or 50” x 50”, quilts to donate to the effort. Each quilt is added to a backpack that will be shared with a child entering the foster care system. We worked on binding one I have in progress last week, more to do this week! The plan is to take the quilts to Comfort Cases the last week of the month - please bring yours to the shop by Saturday, May 23rd so we can get it packed up to go.

And most importantly, thank you so much for your efforts. Your stitches truly make a difference!

QC Spring Market Party

Saturday ~ June 6th

Market lecture ~ 11:00am

H&H, the trade show for needlearts and quilting, was great fun last week, and so very inspiring! Now that I’m back in PA, it’s time to get our Market Party plan finalized. By the first Saturday in June we will have new samples on display, and new fabrics, books, patterns, and notions to share. The party lecture will include a look at many of the things we saw - lots of pictures and stories! We would love to have you join the fun - please pre-register so we can have a little quilty goodie, our party favor, ready for you!

New fabrics continue to fill every corner of the shop! Several years ago, I gave in and admitted companies are never going to ship holiday fabrics when I would like… If you would like to get your projects under way nice and early, have I got news for you - Shelley Cannavas collection, Holly & Hearth, was first into the shop, and now Wilmington’s Cardinal Charm has arrived. Shelley’s group features her modern style artwork in lots of blues and greens with a bit of red, while the Wilmington pieces are offered in a more traditional red and green palette. A flurry of holiday prints from other companies (Moda, Northcott, Andover, and others!) will be blowing in soon - well worth a look! Fabric $13.49 to $14.20 per yard
