We weren’t the only ones loading and unloading for an event in the past week. Youngest returned exhausted from an event her job hosted hundreds of miles from their office. The next morning she decided it would be most efficient to carry the same large tote she did the day before. As the train pulled into her stop, she realized while the tote was full of lots of necessary things, her badge, needed to operate the building elevators, wasn’t one of them… She stepped up to the reception desk and was issued a sticker that would work in only two spots - the lobby elevator and its button for her floor (of course, it didn’t actually work for both). When she finally reached the office, it was time to bring in all the things that had traveled for their event. Two huge dollies and a cart were needed, making the freight elevator the only option. She and a coworker got things into the elevator ok, getting things out was a different story… The dollies were so large they couldn’t maneuver them in the office hallway, the elevator door alarm was sounding, and the powerful door began to automatically close. Youngest jumped back in to be with the load, realizing a second too late - no badge! Several thoughts flashed through her mind - first panic, then I’m going to be stuck in here forever (becoming the Phantom of the…). To her surprise, the elevator headed up. The doors opened on a floor under construction and a construction worker got on. Another instant thought - saved! The very nice guy was sorry to tell her his badge only worked for that floor and the very scary sub-basement… You will be happy to know she didn’t have to take up residence in the freight elevator - her coworker just called the elevator from their floor after the door closed! She probably won’t soon live this one down…

Wishing you a week of smooth rides - up and down,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (4-25-26) those in our end of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet in the shop at 9:00am. We will take a look at new pieces created for display in the shop, we will review many of the upcoming events (and boy oh boy are there a lot!), and then we will move on to the next block in the series. Once again, we will discuss why the directions have you piece the block in a certain way - so much to learn, even when the blocks are not incredibly difficult. Don’t forget your finished block from last month for show and tell (and of course, other show and tell is welcome too!).

Saturday is also our next Stash Management Club meeting day. At 10:30 we will present a program focused on appreciating, organizing, and using the things in your sewing space. There is always something new to enjoy in this crowd!

Southwestern PA Shop Hop

May 11th-16th

My goodness, time is flying by - the regional shop hop will be here before we know it! The hop includes eight stops, eight unique quilt shops, within a 50 mile radius of Pittsburgh. At each stop during the hop you will receive a goodie bag, along with a pattern for a block in the hop’s progressive quilt (collect the pattern for the first block, Four Corners, when you purchase your passport!). Add chances to win awesome prizes (like the grand prize of a $500.00 shopping spree!) when you turn in your completed passport and you realize the hop is not to be missed! Passports available now from any of the participating shops.

Did you make it to the Three Rivers Quilters show? We would like to thank everyone for their efforts to produce a marvelous showcase for the quilting community. From those that began working on the details long before the event, to those that entered quilts (congratulations on your beautiful stitching!), to the judges (can you imagine having that job - yikes, no thank you!), to those making the days run smoothly during the show - we want you to know how truly grateful we are - thank you!!!!!

New fabrics continue to roll in - I find it amazing that every piece is tempting! Benartex’s Harvest Beauty, in combination with their Paisley Scroll, is going to make for some spectacular fall quilts (I know it seems early for fall fabrics, but maybe this will give us time to finish them up early). The elegant prints are offered in a glorious range of cream, gold, green, and red. Wait until you see the ombre effect showcased in the main print! Be sure to look for them when you next visit!

Fabric $13.59 or $13.69 per yard See these fabrics online...

Upcoming class ~

Playing with Panels Market Tote

Saturday ~ May 9th ~ 10:30am-2:30pm

One of the most popular items in our Three Rivers Quilters show booth was the Playing with Panels Market Tote. It’s quite easy to understand why - the tote is stunning! Bonnie has been kind enough to rearrange her schedule a bit so she can teach the class in just a few weeks. In class you will work on constructing the 14” high, 20 1/2” wide by 6” deep bag. She will show how to work everything from the handle she constructed for the piece, to creating the pockets (including one with a zipper), to adding the touches that make for a professional looking finish. The stylish, roomy bag is going to become your absolute favorite tote.

Fee $28.00 (fee is for instruction - pattern and supplies required for class)
