Several family members traveled to the middle of the Adirondacks last week. They like to enjoy the beautiful location when it is buried in snow… I stayed here to “enjoy” the snow in our corner of the world. They hiked on the frozen lake, attempted to climb the snow covered mountain, and the next morning headed out for breakfast. A quick drive to the favorite local diner didn’t go as planned - it was closed. No problem, they drove the twelve miles to the hotel restaurant in the next mountain town. As they stood in front of the closed restaurant, a local asked what they were looking for. When told breakfast, he thought for a moment and suggested the only thing open, the gas station. Winter in the mountains really is different. It made everyone appreciate breakfasts by the shore in the summer even more - each and every one a feast. I figure the feeling was akin to the one we get walking into a fabric store overflowing with beautiful things…

Wishing you lovely choices this week - whether they be food or fabric,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (2-28-26) those in our end of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. We will share shop news, information about upcoming events, and the second kit in the 2026 series. There will be more pieceing technique information shared - everything from exactly how to cut, to how to pin, how to press, and more. We can’t wait to see your first blocks - don’t forget to bring them for show and tell.

Also, a very quick thank you to everyone who shared previous block of the month projects at our show and tell last Sunday. Your quilts are amazing - you are so very talented!

This Saturday is also the next Stash Management meeting. Bring show and tell, things made with goodies from your collection, and organizing ideas. We will share more of the same, and a new pattern to put your treasured fabrics into use.

QC Featherweight Club

Saturday ~ March 7th ~ 10:30am

The second session of our new Featherweight Club will be held in just a little over a week.

During the session, we will continue our look at the history of our favorite little machines (did you have a chance to check on the “birthday” of your machine?!), and then move on to more “machine use” pointers. Renae has another project ready for you to stitch on your Featherweight. I’ve seen the results of your sewing from the first session - they’re wonderful - can’t wait to see what you make this time! Please give the shop a call to let us know you are planning to attend, and to get the supply list if you do not already have the information.

Fee $10.00 per session

Comfort Cases Sew In

Friday ~ March 20th ~ 1030:00am-3:00pm

Two years ago, we were approached by Stacey Lee (of Stacey Lee Creative) with an invitation to join the effort to support Comfort Cases. The organization provides filled backpacks for children entering the foster care system. The call was, and is, for small quilts (30” x 40” for babies and 50” x 50” for older children) to add to the other things that go into the backpacks (which include new pajamas, a book, travel size toiletries, a tiny stuffed animal,...). After visiting the organization headquarters in Gaithersburg, Maryland, we totally committed to the effort! We experienced a truly dedicated, organized, welcoming, and efficient nonprofit! Quilts will be gathered in both April and May, meaning we need to get stitching! We would love to have you join the project (working either on your own or with a group). Consider joining us Friday, March 20th, from 10:30am to 3:30pm, to learn about the project, and to do some sewing. During the session we will demo several pieced designs that can be made in the correct size, those that will work when rolled and placed in the backpacks. Bring your machine, sewing supplies, and a quilt you are working on for Comfort Cases. Please pre-register by March 16th

Fee: this one is different - the fee is travel size toiletries that will be donated along with the quilts!

New book! - 2026 Showstopper 5-Yard Quilt

A new Fabric Cafe booklet just arrived - I think you are going to want to take a look at this one! This time the most talented 3-Yard quilt crowd is sharing something very different. They are revisiting blocks from some of the wonderful quilt books they published in 2025. Not just revisiting, but working the blocks into something completely different - a stunning 46” x 67” medallion style quilt! The seven different blocks in Showstopper are not difficult to stitch. That’s because the booklet contains the carefully written and illustrated directions you love, but with the focus this time on a single quilt. It is amazing to see how blocks of different sizes, and shapes, work together to form the striking “whole”. I honestly can not wait to start cutting into fabric for this one!

Book $12.99

Tilda’s Poppy Seed collection hits the shelves on Monday! These are the blenders we've all been waiting for! The teeny tiny dots on the pieces are very subtle - almost solid, but with just a bit of print when viewed up close. The dusty shades of the rose, peach, gold, green, blue, and taupe pieces are the perfect complement to Tilda multicolor prints - they truly are perfect! While we don’t cut individual Tilda fat quarters, we will have fat quarter stacks ready for Monday - let us know if you would like one held for you!

Fabric $17.49 per yard

Upcoming classes! ~

Back-Basted Applique

Thursday ~ March 19 ~ 10:30am-1:30pm

Like with pieced quilt designs, there are many different ways to execute applique. The back-basting technique is a handwork method that requires a unique setup, which eliminates the need for paper templates. The applique design is first traced on the back of the fabric, and then basting and stitching begins. During the class you will work the different steps used for this precise, slow stitching technique.

Fee $24.00

Free Motion Machine Quilting

Wednesday ~ March 25th ~ 10:30am-1:30pm

Fee: $24.00

Please note ~ current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday.
