I try to be on the watch for interesting color combinations for future quilting projects. I never know where I might find them. Our visit to the botanical gardens on the weekend was a logical, prolific source of inspiration, but stuck in traffic on route 88 would seem less likely… As I patiently (ok, not so patiently) waited for traffic to move on Friday, a huge bird sailed across the hill and right in front of the car. Even though its underside, the part I could see at that point, was white, it was quite majestic against the snowy landscape and gray sky. Looking back, I’m glad I continued to be stuck in traffic. As the bird came in for a landing on the nearby pole, I was able to appreciate the rest of its feathers - the beautiful rusty red tail and striated brown feathers. Ever since, I’ve been trying to figure out a foundation pieced design inspired by the red tailed hawk. We’ll see…
Wishing you quiet moments, filled with the beauty of nature,
Mary Beth

This Saturday (2-21-26) those in our 2026 applique Saturday Sampler program will meet at 9:00am. We will review the information we shared in our first session, expanding on the techniques covered in January, and then move on to the next block in the series. We will also share information about things going on in the shop, and take a quick look at some new fabric arrivals that are perfect for applique. Don’t forget your block from January - we can’t wait to see it! | |

Simple Whatnots Club 2026 ~ series begins!
Thursday ~ February 26th ~ 10:30am
We are so very excited to be starting Kim Diehl’s Collection 15 Simple Whatnots Club! Over the course of the year, we will offer the eight unique, petite quilts in the collection, as well as, two marvelous sampler projects (one tiny, the other larger!). The quilts are shown in Kim’s newest fabric group, Love Struck, from Henry Glass. While historic in scale and style, the prints expand a bit on colors she has used in the past. We will begin the year with her Box of Chocolates quilt. The little squares that travel diagonally across the quilt are worked as Nine Patch blocks - a unique approach, making for a great finished little piece. We can’t wait to get started - we would love to have you join us!
Fee $6.00 per session (includes pattern and instruction - fabrics may be purchased as yardage, or as fat quarter or third yard packs)

It is beginning to look a lot like spring here - well, at least inside the shop… Several companies have sent fabrics featuring truly lovely flowers. My current favorites are the Nature’s Serenade prints. Their beautiful Susan Winget artwork is offered in soft shades of green, blue, rose, and yellow. Flowers, mushrooms, butterflies, sweet birds - I think she has our favorite things covered!
Fabric $13.60 per yard, panel $9.25 See these online...

Choosing Color With Confidence
Wednesday ~ March 11th ~ 10:30am-12:30pm
In this lecture format class, you will be introduced to basic color theory as it pertains to selecting fabrics for your sewing projects. We are surrounded by color everywhere, every day, and thus, may take color for granted. We can choose color intuitively or consciously. The difficulty is trusting those instincts. We will study how to go about choosing with confidence during the session.
Fee $18.00

Back-Basted Applique
Thursday ~ March 19 ~ 10:30am-1:30pm
Like with pieced quilt designs, there are many different ways to execute applique. The back-basting technique is a handwork method that requires a unique setup, which eliminates the need for paper templates. The applique design is first traced on the back of the fabric, and then basting and stitching begins. During the class you will work the different steps used for this precise, slow stitching technique. Fee $24.00
