My sweetie really loves to watch the birds. He worries they won’t have enough to eat during the winter, so out come the bird feeders… While he worries about the birds eating, he’s not that concerned about the squirrels going hungry. In fact, he’s gone to some trouble to keep them out of the feeders. The current solution was to raise the bird feeders to about ten feet above the ground. Most years that’s not really a problem. On Monday I watched as he waded through knee deep snow with a step stool in hand. After planting it as securely as one could in deep snow, he found the bottom step, and climbed up with snow covered boots. Next came holding on while reaching up to snag the feeder, trying to dump birdseed from the bag while continuing to hold on, and then figuring what to do with the bag (I saw it sail off into a drift…). I couldn’t decide whether to giggle along with the squirrels, who were waiting to sail from the nearest tree as soon as he walked away, or to run for the camera… Having to call if disaster struck really didn’t cross my mind. A fall wouldn’t have been any worse than one on a ski slope - right?!

Hoping you are safe inside, warm and cozy,

Mary Beth

If you are registered for our end of the month 2026 pieced Saturday Sampler program your new quilt begins this Saturday (1-31-26!). The 9:00am meeting will be an introduction to the program and the quilt we will be making. We will cover everything from background selection to the basics of machine piecing. There are lots of students in the session, which is wonderful except for a few little issues - winter has seriously decreased the size of our parking lot, and temperatures on Saturday are going to be ugly!!! So, use great caution and dress for the weather - if you come with a group of friends maybe all ride together?... I also plan to offer the lecture as a continuous demo, beginning at noon, if you wish to head our way a bit later in the day. If there is an issue early Saturday, that would cause a further change of plans, the information will be shared via email…

Also this Saturday, those in our Stash Management club will meet at 10:30am. We will share new organization ideas, show and tell, and a new group of block patterns to put your scraps to use! Again, please be very careful in our smaller (the snow banks are encroaching!) parking lot - watch for other cars and people!

QC 2025 Block of the Month Show and Tell

Sunday ~ February 22nd ~ 1:00pm

We know you are working on the block by block projects you started last year. We’ve seen some great quilts as you shopped for border, binding, and backing fabrics! Isn’t Bobbi’s version of our 2025 applique Saturday Sampler, shown here, fantastic?! We would love to see your shop block of the month pieces - everything from Saturday Samplers, to Kim Diehl samplers, to our Holiday Block Box,... on February 22nd. There will be little gifts for everyone that shows their quilt (for this event your finished top counts - no need to be quilted and bound!) - so much fun and so very inspiring - get those last stitches in! Please pre-register so we have a gift ready for you!

Local Quilt Shop Contest!

We began the Local Quilt Shop contest last week on Local Quilt Shop Day. I hope you had fun during your visit that day, even though it was a complete madhouse here! The day, with its guessing games (we’ve added answers to the display now - who would have thought there were so many spools of thread in that jar?!), treats and door prize, marked the beginning of the 2026 LQS contest, which is a worldwide contest designed to acknowledge the importance of independent quilt shops. You get to be part of the contest by voting for your favorite quilt shop at www.LQSContest.com/vote before February 28th. A few questions answered, including a few comments, or a little story about your favorite shop (and boy are there some stories to be told!), and you’ve voted! We would love to have your vote, mainly because the prizes are goodies to be shared with all of you!!!!

QC Game Day Super Sale

Sunday ~ February 8th ~ 12:00pm-4:00pm

We approach the big game day a bit differently… While everyone else is getting ready for football, we help you get ready for a marathon - a sewing session marathon! On the 8th, when you stop in the shop, every regular price, in stock item will be offered at 25% off its regular price. Get your game plan together and head our way for the win!!!

PS If you are subscribed to our And Sew On subscription newsletter, watch for details of an issue being released in the next couple days! You will want it for Saturday February 7th!

Once again, there are new fabrics literally everywhere in the shop! Do take a look at mixed media artist Seth Apter’s Stamped collection for Free Spirit when you next visit. He shares that he’s stripped back the layers to make the details the star of the show with these new prints. The words, lines, and shapes featured are worked in taupe on ivory, with the addition of one more colorful option. We have big plans for the group - what will you make?!
