A few years back I had my sweetie repaint a room right after he was done painting it, as the cream color just wasn’t right… You can imagine the lengths we go to now to find the right color on the first try. This time we needed a whitish color that would go with the existing trim color that runs throughout the entire house. Smart man that he is, he made a trip to the store for paint chips. None of them were called Cloud Dancer, but they might as well have been. Names like Linen, Polar Bear, Frost, Blank Canvas, Cottage White, Whipped Cream, and more all looked about the same to my sweetie, but not to a quilter! We even asked our younger son if he liked the Blank Canvas color that they just added to every wall in their new place.  He said he loves it, as it’s now on every surface - I think he remembers repainting the family room here… We matched one chip to the trim, and selected another to coordinate - Cottage White was the winner. The color’s perfect. Too bad the trim color isn’t quite right! Now the question becomes where do you stop with the new trim color. Today my sweetie spent time painting just the tiny lip on a door frame - and people think quilters’ 1/4” seams are a pain…

Wishing you the perfect color white this week - whether quilt background fabric or paint,

Mary Beth

Local Quilt Shop Day at QC

Saturday ~ January 24th!

This Saturday, January 24th, we will be celebrating Local Quilt Shop Day - a worldwide event designed to acknowledge the importance of independent quilt shops. As always, we really want to celebrate the day in order to acknowledge you, a sewist that makes the shop possible! We will share a guessing game, a door prize drawing, and a demo - the things you seem to most enjoy when visiting! Saturday is also the first day this year that you can vote in the By Annie local quilt shop contest (we would love your vote!). Thus, our demo for the day will follow the construction of the By Annie Catch All Caddie 2.0. The incredibly useful, sturdy caddy is being made from new French General prints. We’ll see how far we get during the day - it’s going to be a wonderful piece when we get it finished!

Midnight Sparkle
Block of the Month Intro meeting

Saturday ~ January 24th ~ 1:00pm

If you have pe-registered for the Midnight Sparkle block of the month program, we’d like to invite you to the introductory session for the project. This Saturday we will take a look at how the program will work, we will share information about selecting fabrics for the project, and then we will review construction of the blocks for month one in the series. I’m terribly excited to be starting this master work - I began stitching yesterday! A brand new Marcus historic style fabric collection just arrived. The collection, Old Village Greens, is proving to be perfect for the first blocks in my version of the project. My antique looking version will be very different from the original quilt, but hopefully still impressive! See you at 1:00pm Saturday, unless the weather becomes an issue!

Freezer Paper Foundation Piecing

Friday ~ January 30th ~ 10:30am-2:30pm

Have you tried traditional foundation paper piecing? Did you enjoy it? Would you like to learn a new technique that results in the same precision, with no ripping out of paper, and no “backwards” stitching? The freezer paper piecing technique is a game changer! Once you learn the technique, you can apply it to most traditional foundation piecing projects.

Fee $28.00

It looks like the weather may take a pretty serious winter turn this week! Please keep in mind that weather can be very different from place to place in our region. We will try to let you know if we have to adjust plans (usually via an email), but it might be best to give the shop a call before setting out (if there is no answer we may very well be stuck at home!). And please, dress warmly and wear your boots!

Please note ~ current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday.
