It certainly has been an “interesting” week so far… I hope you are safe, and your corner of the world is intact. As I showed several pieced antique quilt blocks during last week’s hand piecing demo, I pointed out the challenges the maker would have faced… We talked about the quality of the fabric,  thickness of the sewing thread, and the difference in notions used in the 1800’s. Of course, the discussion also included mention of the lack of a sewing machine and electric lights… Now that we’re on the third day without power at our house (the shop has power!), I’ve realized I might not have been real happy in the 1800s. Hand piecing by candle light is really difficult - I tried! So much for tiny little stitches… When you start thinking about all the things that now require electricity, it’s hard to decide which you might miss most - my list starts with the sewing machine, then goes garage door opener, lights, garbage disposal, clocks, internet,... You’ll notice I didn’t mention vacuum cleaner anywhere on my list… Hopefully we’ll all be able to turn our machines on again soon!

Wishing you a week with many “piece-filled” moments,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (5-3-25) those in our beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. This time we move on to the next block and on to another new technique. There is so much to learn and so much to see - can’t wait to welcome you Saturday morning!

Churn Dash Demo

Saturday ~ May 3rd ~ 11:00am

This Saturday the demo focuses on one of my favorite quilt blocks. Churn Dash is one of the most versatile designs - it can be made with different techniques, in a whole range of sizes and shapes. Well worth taking a look on Saturday (there may be fewer examples than I had planned - the no power thing is cutting into productivity!!!)

QC Anniversary Celebration

May 2nd and 3rd

If the weather cooperates (does everyone have their fingers crossed?!), our celebration is still on! We plan to thank you for being part of our quilty world with games, prizes (the door prize is shown here - spectacular - right?!!!), and treats. This is an amazing place to be because of each of you!!!!

You’ve been asking for weeks (actually months!) - I can finally announce Tula’s 50th fabric collection, Full Moon Forest II, has arrived!!! Tula shares that the collection honors where she began, while also being influenced by all she has learned along the way. To see the transformation of her iconic owl print, and the rabbit print is inspiring (to say nothing about all the other prints!). We just opened the boxes - meaning we have every Full Moon Forest II and every new coordinating True Colors piece at the moment. Hopefully they will all be here when you stop in!!!!

Fabric $13.49 per yard

We’ve mentioned all the solids that have arrived over the past weeks, but I failed to mention we have lots of wonderful new patterns that make great use of the solids. Two that caught my attention when they arrived yesterday are Brilliant, and Wishing Star. Both of the patterns make use of a wide array of solids in pieced star designs. Charisma Horton’s Brilliant, a modern medallion style quilt, is made from a series of pieced blocks with a Dresden Plate center block. Wishing Star is a foundation pieced contemporary work. While they have stars in common, they couldn’t be more different. The pair shows the impact that can be made with “simple” solid fabrics - both are stunning!

Patterns $12.00 each
