Dear Friends,

Several members of our family believe you need to arrive at the airport way before a flight leaves. Actually, it’s virtually all the female members of the family that hold that belief. A couple years back one duo arrived at the airport early, only to find they were at the wrong airport. The female member pointed out how lucky they were to have started early, as they ran for the flight after the drive to the correct airport. This week another family member started from her city apartment to the airport nice and early. Traffic threw a wrench in the works. She called and breathlessly let her father know she made it to the gate with just 10 minutes to spare. To complete that same journey, she headed back to the airport much earlier than her sibling thought necessary. They heard a strange clanking sound as they sped along the highway… Whatever caused the sound sliced a tire, leaving them stranded on the side of the road. Youngest was able to explain exactly where she was to the nice Uber driver, who picked her up and got her to the airport in time. I figure there is no chance any family member will be allowed to head to an airport at the last minute ever again! Don’t they realize you can always work peacefully on hand stitching while waiting in the airport?!!!

Wishing you many peaceful (piece-full) moments this week,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (4-27-24) those in our end of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. We’ll share information about all that is going on in the shop and pass out kits for the next block in the series. Be sure to make note of the questions you have as you piece your current block - you will want to ask them during the session (I’m sure others have the same questions, but don’t think of them while they are here!). We can’t wait to see how your blocks are coming along!

We will also host our Stash Management club this Saturday (at 10:30am). The session will focus on organizing, and putting the goodies in your sewing space into use. We will start with show and tell (don’t forget yours!), and then move on to a pattern that can be made with fabrics in your collection - the meetings are always fun - we would love to have you join us. Fee $10.00 for all the remaining sessions in the series

Comfort Cases project update ~

Quilts have begun to roll in for our April charitable sewing project (you guys are amazing!). The pieces donated will go to Comfort Cases to be shared with children entering the foster care system. They will be one component of a backpack that includes new pajamas, a new stuffed animal, travel size toiletries, a coloring book or journal, and a new small quilt or blanket (all gathered and packed so that no child enters the foster system carrying what little they own in a garbage bag). The effort for this year ends on April 29th (give a call or stop in for all the details). We hope to show off the quilts in a novel display on May 3rd. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather, as they will be displayed along the back fence!

Pictured quilt created by Lois C. - made with Krista Moser’s Just Four Fat Quarters baby quilt directions!

QC Quilters Day Out ~ Spring 2024!

Friday ~ May 24th ~ 10:00am-4:00pm

I say this every time, but I am so excited to let you know we will once again be heading to a stunning professional workroom, in a restored Victorian house, for our upcoming Quilters Day Out!!! During the day, we will work on a special piecing project developed just for the group (one that teaches how to use a multitude of prints, and how to piece curves!), we will enjoy a marvelous lunch, as well as, event goodie bags. Your fee for the day will include the curve ruler we will use, a kit for the prints included in the project (a range of brightly colored prints this time), lunch, and the event goodie bag. Space is limited (and fills very quickly!) - please register soon! Fee $130.00

Everyone seemed to love the last fabric collection that looked like linen. Good news - I’ve found another collection with that look! The Grasscloth Cotton group comes in a full range of warm to cool colors, and a superb range of neutral tones. Each piece is fantastic - they are sure to go perfectly with the more multicolor prints in your collection - you need to take a look!

Fabric $11.99 per yard

Intro to Hand Applique

Saturday ~ May 18th ~ 11:00am-1:00pm

Hand applique is a most useful skill to master. It allows you to create beautiful pictorial works, but can also be very useful in other applications. In class you will work on a small applique design that includes pieces that allow the teacher to share how she works stems, leaves and petals, and circles. The block will be smaller, but similar in style to the blocks in our 2022 Applique Saturday Samper project (block #2 from the medallion style quilt is shown here). You will have time for a bit of stitching in class, and leave with lots of tips that will help as you continue practicing at home.

Class fee includes pattern, fabric kit and applique supplies - please bring small sewing scissors, paper scissors, and paper and pencil to class.

Fee $24.00 Pre-registration at least one week before class is required so we have supplies ready for you.
