Dear Friends,

I love the caller ID on my phone. When it rang yesterday I was all prepared for another question from the youngest family member. This time my “Hey” was greeted with “Which way does the bobbin go in the sewing machine?”. I explained to my oldest that the thread goes back on itself into the slit in the bobbin case, and thus, when you pull the thread it turns counter clockwise. Good thing I then thought to ask which machine - wrong one - it’s the opposite for the one he was setting up. Curiosity got the best of me and I asked what he was sewing. The story began with he had been to four stores in order to find D rings. He next exclaimed, “Wait there are D rings right there, why does she have D rings?”.  I didn’t think he really wanted to hear that most of us have them, so I kept quiet… That was followed by him saying his darlings had convinced him to get another dog. The shelter required a certain type of harness before you could get the dog, but there were none to be found where he lives, so he was making one… I figure he must have done a good job, as pictures of an adorable puppy arrived this morning.

I bet my family never dreamed how valuable their sewing skills would be - how about yours?!

We’ve selected the fabrics, and have begun cutting kits, for this Saturday's (3-23-24) pieced Saturday Sampler session. At 9:00am those in the end of the month group will be able to take a look at show and tell, get to share last month’s blocks, and receive the new kit and technique instructions. The blocks are looking great - we can’t wait to share the new one!

Also this Saturday, those in our Stash Management group will meet at 10:30am. We will share show and tell (don’t forget yours!), organizing tips, and a new pattern that will help you cut into your fabric collection!

QC Simple Whatnots Club

Thursday ~ March 28th ~ 10:30am

While it may seem to be the wrong season to work on this one, Fall Haul is the next little quilt we will work on in our Simple Whatnots Club. The 26 1/2” x 26 1/2” quilt features pieced stars made with Kim Diehl’s Quiet Grace fabric collection. Rich rust, gold, red and ivory pieces were used for the original quilt, but Kim’s red and blue prints could be used instead for a patriotic version. We will also begin Kim’s larger Brimming Over sampler this month - so much to sew, so much fun!

Fee $6.00 (includes instruction and pattern)

QC 3 Yard Quilt Day

Saturday ~ April 13th

Lecture & show and tell ~ 9:00am!

Ok, so we picked the date to celebrate 3 Yard quilts for a silly reason. Each of the hundreds of 3 Yard designs requires 1 yard each of 3 fabrics - you get it 1&3, thus the 13th… During the day we will display new 3 Yard quilts made by staff members, and we will showcase a wide range of 3 Yard quilt books (they truly include something for everyone!). The 9:00am lecture will focus on how to select fabrics for 3 Yard quilts, and on understanding the instructions Donna and Fran share in each of their publications. Be sure to bring along the 3 Yard quilts you have made to share with the group - you know how we love show and tell! You will also want to add your name to the drawing for some great prizes when you visit that day - I bet you can guess what they might be! The lecture is our gift to you - please pre-register by April 9th so we are prepared with enough goodies for everyone!

Deb Tucker’s “Squiggles, Dots and Lines” is the newest fabric collection to arrive in the shop. And boy, what a collection it is! The group includes 22 glorious batiks. The funky circles, lines, and dots of the group are worked in deep rich blue, green, and plum shades. The question becomes whether to make Kate Colleran’s Dawn or Dusk with them or to make one of Deb’s stunning designs?!

Fabric $12.75 per yard, patterns $12.00 each

Oops ~ Last week we inadvertently left out the price of the Saturday, April 27th Intro to Freehand Machine Quilting class. The three hour session with Jill is $24.00.

New Class ~ Iron Caddie

Friday ~ April 26th ~ 10:30am - 1:30pm

It is often a challenge to carry a small iron to classes or retreats (it’s never cool when I’m ready to pack up!). And then when you get there, what do you iron on? The adorable tote you will make in this session solves all the issues. It lays flat to become an ironing surface and then buttons up around your petite iron for carrying. The pattern for the unique project even includes the heat resistant fabric needed for the project lining.

Fee $22.00 (please note - pattern and supplies required for class - list will be provided when you register)
