Quilters Corner - 12-14-23 Snow Day Kits available

Dear Friends,

I had a whole dinner plan worked out before I even stepped into the kitchen the other night. The plan included mashed potatoes as a special treat. The cooking was going great, everything would be done at the same time… That was until I opened the fridge to grab the milk to add to the cooked potatoes. The fridge milk spot was filled with a carton of almond milk (one of us is allergic to almonds!). My sweetie suggested coffee creamer, but I really didn’t want potatoes that tasted like hazelnut creamer. He did offer to go to the store at that point, but instead we kept digging in the cupboards - the next thought was coconut milk (getting desperate, and yuck!), followed by evaporated milk… With the addition of lots of butter, and garlic, evaporated milk tastes only slightly “off” in potatoes. I would suggest you check for milk before you begin peeling potatoes - leave the evaporated milk for pumpkin pie!

On Saturday (12-16-23) those in our 2023 applique Saturday Sampler program will enjoy the last session for the project! At 9:00am we will share the last block kit, and the final setting information. I have loved seeing your versions of the “From Our Garden” blocks. Even on the coldest days, there were brilliant blooms to enjoy!

2024 Saturday Sampler programs!

We have just begun accepting registrations for our 2024 Saturday Sampler programs. There will be both a pieced, and an appliqued project shared over the course of the coming year. These programs are a huge hit for many reasons, most notably because they are a marvelous way to learn quilting techniques, and they are an amazing deal! You pay $5.00 plus tax for your first kit when registering for the program (the kit includes the block pattern and foreground fabrics). If you complete the block, and bring it to show at the second meeting, your next kit is free! On Point Petals is the applique project for the coming year. The 80” x 80” quilt includes eleven 14” x 14” bold, brightly colored applique blocks, and two half blocks in a pieced setting. Simpler Times, the pieced quilt for 2024, features twelve pieced 12” x 12” blocks, thirteen setting blocks, sashing, and borders. You even get to choose between a Northeast (deep richly colored historic style prints) or Southeast palette (bright, bold colors inspired by a Kaffe print) for your Simpler Times kits. Please register soon, as the sessions fill very quickly!!!

Needless to say, these aren’t the only block-by-block projects we have planned for the beginning of 2024. We have a packet to share when you next visit - it lists the details for eleven new programs worked little by little. So much fun - so much to learn!!!
