Dear Friends,

One of my darlings called last week. From past experience, I knew the conversation would last quite a while. While I enjoy every minute of our conversations, I usually hunt for a bit of stitching to do at the same time. I decided to balance the phone on my shoulder while I finished up a table runner for display. All that was left was the binding. A friend had reminded me earlier in the day about a trick I shared to make a faux binding - looks like binding, but isn’t. I set about adding the required 7/8” wide strips that would look like binding when I was done. I added a strip to each side, then headed to the ironing board, with the phone still balanced on my shoulder… I talked, cut fusible batting, ironed it on, and cut a backing the same size. The next moment I realized I didn’t add the narrow strips to the ends of the runner. I’m fairly certain no swear words escaped as I decided to improvise. You’ll have to look at the runner in the back holiday display in the shop. The sides are done one way, one end is bound traditionally, and the other isn’t bound at all! It’s now a teaching tool (and I’m sticking to that story!) - you’ll have to see if you like the faux binding when compared to the traditional binding!

Wishing you a week of completed projects, with very few teachable moments!

This Saturday (11-18-23) those in our applique Saturday Sampler program will meet at 9:00am. Another bold flower block kit will be shared. I can’t wait to see how your fabric garden is coming!

On Saturday we will also share the next blocks in our Wholehearted Sew Along. Bring the blocks you have made so far to show, and then take a look at pieces for the next step.

QC 2023 From Our Table

The beautiful table settings created by your friends that work in the shop will be in place for just a few more days. Do plan to stop in and take a look - each reflects the style of the person that created it. We make the pieces as our way of supporting the local independent food pantry. If you bring donations for them when you visit (anything from non perishable food to things like personal care items, and even cleaning supplies) we trade you ballots so you can vote for your favorite display. At the end of the show we draw names from the ballots and the winners receive kits for the favorite display. I can’t begin to tell you just how grateful the food pantry is for your support!

2023 QC Holiday Block Box!

We are ready to take orders for our 2023 Holiday Block Box! The little boxes are like the Advent calendars you loved as a child, but with a “stitchie” bent! Your box will contain twenty- four little packets, each holding a pattern for a 4” x 4” block, fabric for the foreground of the block, and a little treat (sometimes a sweet, others a notion or additional pattern!). Please place your order very soon (boxes are $39.95 each), as these sell out very quickly. Boxes will be ready for pick up (or the mail) right after Thanksgiving. These have proved to be a wonderful distraction from the bustle of the season - a little sewing each day makes everything better!!!

Simple Whatnots Club Display!

November 28th - December 9th

We have asked members of our Simple Whatnots Club to bring their incredible club projects to share in a special display. We can’t wait for them to be hung - each truly is a little work of art! The petite quilts feature the pieced and appliqued patterns, and fabrics, designed by Kim Diehl. It is amazing to see what members have created over the course of the year - definitely worth a look!!!

QC Market Party

Saturday ~ December 2nd

Market Lecture ~ 11:00am

Fall Quilt Market in Houston was an incredible, overwhelmingly spectacular showcase of all things new in the quilt world. It takes us several weeks to pull things together, for items to arrive and samples to be stitched. By the first Saturday in December we will be ready to share the goodies with you! Consider joining us for the lecture featuring photos and stories from the show (pre-registration for the lecture is now open - please register soon as space is limited), and then check every corner of the shop for new books, patterns, fabrics and samples! There will be lots to see, and prizes to be won - sure to be inspiring and fun!

I’m not sure if the Santa in your world has asked for gift ideas yet, but how about some suggestions?! When you, or Santa, next stop in look for ~

Baskets - A new shipment of handmade baskets arrived in the past two weeks. Each is made by women in Ghana, employed by the woman we work with. The makers are paid a fair wage for the gorgeous, strong, long lasting pieces they create.

Candles - These are new, and oh so cute. The small, beautifully scented candles feature names you are sure to love. I am a huge fan of the fabric store scent!

Card Boxes and Card Decks - No, these are not playing cards, but valuable reference for quilting and stitching. They are a collectible you are sure to put to constant use!

Kits - We currently have kits for several small projects in stock. Each includes the pattern and fabrics for a petite project, and better still, they are wrapped, ready to gift!

Gift Certificates - So first, yes we have gift certificates. What could be easier for Santa? No need to worry about size or style - always perfect!
