Dear Friends,

I was excited to have the help of our youngest staff member as I photographed some quilts outside last week. Of course, the minute we started the wind picked up. Even with help, I couldn’t hold on to the pin box and wrangle the quilts, so I stuck some pins in my shirt. With a bemused look, my helper questioned why I would do that. I promised I would be careful, keep track of how many pins I had there, and not stick myself. I need to be more careful about what I promise… After a quick stop at the post office later that day, I panicked as I was being stung in the shoulder while driving. I feared a wasp was under my seatbelt. It could have been a wasp, but instead was a nice long quilting pin. I returned to the post office the next day, parked in the same spot as usual, looked down as I stepped out of the car only to see two more quilt pins on the ground. I could have been “stung” by a whole swarm!

Hoping you have no trouble keeping track of your sharp sewing implements this week,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (10-21-23) we will share block #10 kits with those in our applique Saturday Sampler program. Along with the pattern and fabrics for the bright, bold bloom we will share shop news, and a bit of technique instruction. It’s amazing to think how close we are to the end of the project! Don’t worry about having no applique to work on, we have a new applique design in the works for next year!

Our Simple Whatnots Club will meet next Thursday (10-26-23) at 10:30am. The pattern for the session is Snowberries in Summer. The petite medallion style quilt is marvelous - lots of tiny pieces, lots of fun to make! Don’t forget to bring show and tell to share!

QC Wholehearted Sew Along ~ November 3rd to December 8th

Many of you know I love piecing little blocks - each is a tiny work of art! They allow you to practice precision in cutting, piecing, and even pressing as you make each little treasure.  Keeping that in mind, you might just want to join us for our next Sew Along! Stop in to purchase the pattern in the next few weeks, and then gather fabrics for your version of Wholehearted. Six different 6” x 6” finished pieced blocks become the centers of the pieced hearts that make up the quilt - we will focus on a different block each week. A short information sheet and new block will be shared each Saturday during the program. It’s easy to join the program - just let us know you are interested!

Fee - free with your Wholehearted pattern purchase!!!

How about a peek at the prints I plan to use for my version of Wholehearted? I love the soft watercolor prints by Clara Jean for Dear Stella. I think the little flowers, and houses of the newest group, in combination with the Dear Stella blender prints I love, are going to be perfect for the project. I’m already planning the spots in the piecing where I can add the tiny house print!

Fabric $12.20 or $12.70 per yard, See these online...

Wholehearted pattern $10.00

Count Your Buttons Day

Saturday ~ October 21st

The creator of this unofficial holiday is unknown, but the importance of buttons is definitely worth celebrating! On Saturday we will share some button facts and a quiz to go along with the facts (with a prize, of course). We will also share a pattern for a small quilted piece that can be embellished with buttons. Can you imagine a world without buttons?

Plans are almost finalized for our fall Quilters Day Out! We thought we would share a few details in case you need to clear your calendar for that Friday. The day will be spent in a private, professional workroom housed in a restored Victorian house. This time we will be working on a scrap style quilt featuring on-point Four Patch units. We’ve included a sneak peek here of the blocks that make up the design. Your day will include the class and a kit for the quilt, a marvelous lunch, and a goodie bag. Holiday Twist

Saturday ~ October 28th ~ 1:00pm-4:00pm

This new class will help you create a bold 62” x 77” scrap style quilt. The twenty 12” x 12” pieced blocks in the sample were created from holiday print scraps - it would be just as wonderful in historic, or bright, or batik, or… You get the idea! You will be happy to hear, modern piecing techniques will be used (all those points are made from squares and rectangles!). The class will cover block construction, including how to work the partial seams used during construction of the blocks, and how to set and border your blocks. This one is going to be fun!

Fee $24.00

Please note ~ current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday.
