Quilters Corner - 9-14-23

Dear Friends,

My oldest called earlier in the week, beginning the conversation with, “I’ve got a question”. One of his darlings was sewing, using directions she found on the internet. He was wondering if thread “wrapped around the little black part by the bobbin” would keep the machine from working… My first question, “What machine are we talking about?”. Even after learning which machine, I couldn’t figure out what part he meant. Good thing he’s skilled when it comes to the computer - he sent a closeup photo with the trouble spot circled. I told him I figured every part Pfaff put on the machine was important and suggested he take a seam ripper and carefully run it through the wad of black thread and then pull the bits out with tweezers. We then discussed what might have caused the issue. When I asked if the bobbin was in the correct way his darling said probably not, as the video she watched didn’t mention that. Hopefully her project went far smoother with the bobbin in correctly!

I so wish the flowers in our garden would last as long as the ones I applique! This Saturday (9-16-23) those in our applique Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. A new pattern for a bold bloom, applique fabrics, construction tips, and shop news will be shared. It’s fun to realize the fabric garden you are creating will be vibrant all year long!

This may seem like an odd question - how do you best celebrate the novel pre-cuts, Jelly Rolls, that were first introduced in 2006?! Around here it means it’s time for some inspiration and some stitching! Join us on Saturday to select one of Moda’s four free 2023 Sew a Jelly Roll patterns, to see samples of three of the patterns, and to watch as the fourth is created. 2023 Quilt Pink!

Several years ago Moda shared an October project to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The very pink project met with such success, both in raising awareness and raising funds for research, they continue to create something wonderful each October. This year the Quilt Pink Sew Along project, Adore by Camille Roskelley, will be the centerpiece of the effort. A portion of the purchase price of her stunning new Lighthearted collection, the fabrics used for the 84” x 84” quilt, will be used to provide services and fund research. The prints are offered in Camille’s favorite palette of red, pink, aqua and green. Each print in the group is delightful - they are going to make for a fantastic quilt!
