Dear Friends,

I watched quietly for a moment the other night as my sweetie squirted one bottle of ketchup into another. Then I couldn’t stand it and had to ask why… He pointed out that there were too many condiment bottles in the fridge, they were taking up too much room. I stopped him from next mixing two different brands of ketchup, as our youngest would have had a hissy fit over that. Then he was on to the mayonnaise. He questioned why there would be mayonnaise in both a jar and squeeze bottle. The best I could come up with was that the squeeze bottle might be intended for use on sandwiches… When it wouldn’t squeeze out into the jar, he “gently” tapped it on the counter. It came out just fine at that point, spraying his shirt, my shirt, my hair, my face and the floor! This morning I cleaned mayonnaise from under the kitchen cabinets. I’m fairly sure there was a net loss of mayonnaise during that consolidation!

Wishing you uneventful success with your organizing efforts this week,

Mary Beth

On Saturday (9-2-23) those in our beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler program will meet at 9:00am. We will share the next kit in the series, directions for the block, and news about all that is going on in the shop. Don’t forget your completed block from last month so your new kit will be free.

2023 Pillowcase Race Wrap Up!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2023 Pillowcase Race. You guys are amazing! During the course of the race, you brought in 2961 pillowcases (and quite likely more, as we had trouble keeping up as you brought them in!). So many of you helped this year - from the youngest to oldest (a span of ninety years!) your creations are outstanding!  This year's prizes go to - Most by a group - Team Cindy, Most by an individual - Luella, favorite Ethan, Brendan and Vivan. Let us know you donated pillowcases when you next visit - we have a one yard cut of fabric for makers as a thank you - either the start of a different project, or the beginning of another pillowcase!

Read a Book Day at QC

Wednesday ~ September 6th ~ 10:00am-4:00pm

One of the women in our family believes no book should be gifted without reading it first. I think she’s on to something… Stop in on the 6th to take a look at book reviews we have written for some of the newest books in the shop, and for some favorite, timeless tomes. See what we’ve learned as we turned the pages, take a look at the stitching resulting from our research, and take a chance to win a book (three winners over the course of the day). Be sure to bring along your QC 2023 date book - there’s a coupon on the September page.

The QC Fall Demo Day mentioned in your QC date book has morphed a bit - it now will be offered in a short lecture series format. On Saturday, September 9th, three different topics will be covered. Consider signing up for ~

  • 11:00am ~ Quilting Essentials - From novel tools to sources of inspiration, so many essentials to cover!
  • 12:00am ~ Sew Alongs and Block by Block projects - The options to work little by little seem endless - take a look at some of our current and upcoming favorites!
  • 1:00pm ~ Off to the Quilter - Learn how to prepare your work to head to a professional quilter and how to select and work with a professional quilter.

In addition to lots of information, there will be goodies to win during the sessions, and door prizes to be won, as well. Register soon so you don’t miss out!

Sew A Jelly Roll Day

September 16th ~ 10:00am-4:00pm

We’ve begun work on three of the four neat quilts Moda has designed for this year’s Jelly Roll Day festivities. Stop in on the 16th to watch as we work on the fourth (pick up sewing and organizing tips as you watch!) and then snag a free pattern for your favorite. Be sure to play our Jelly Roll guessing game for a chance at a Jelly Roll prize. Talk about a yummy day!

The August 2023 Kaffe Collective pieces (shown above) have arrived! As usual, you will find the group showcases the exceptional artwork of Kaffe, Brandon and Phillip, executed in bold, bright colors. I loved the Floating Hibiscus print so much, I have already stitched Delight, a 3-Yard quilt, featuring the piece! I think I need to use the Curly Kale print next!

Fabric $13.75 per yard, The Magic of 3-Yard Quilts $15.99
