Dear Friends,

I never know where the conversation will head when I’m talking to my youngest. During a conversation earlier in the week she commented about not knowing what to say when I ask what she would like for her birthday or Christmas. This time she figures she’s way ahead because she not only thought of something for Christmas, but was sharing it now. Keep in mind, she likes to sew… Her great idea - an iron and ironing board. I couldn’t help myself. I had to ask how she’s made it to this point without them. My darling has been using wrinkle release spray and her flat iron (most would use that item for their hair!). When I told the youngest QC staff member about my conversation, she suggested sending her one of the little Oliso irons and an empty bolt board (who really needs an ironing board when you have an empty bolt board…) - the two of them are nothing if not creative! So the question is wait until Christmas, send a small iron now, or go for it and send her a full size iron now? Keep in mind, I can include lots of pillowcase kits in a box if I send an iron now!

I’m going to work on appreciating the sewing space and tools I have this week - how about you?

This Saturday (7-29-23) those in our end of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. You will get the next kit in the series, see a little block construction demo, and enjoy show and tell - be sure to bring your block from last month so you receive the new kit free!

The next session in our Stash Management series is not until next month. Watch for the date and time in an upcoming letter.

QC Sidewalk Celebration

Saturday ~ July 29th ~ 10:00am-4:00pm

Sunday ~ July 30th ~ 12:00pm-4:00pm

I thought a quick “look” at some of the deals for our weekend celebration might be in order. On Saturday and Sunday you will find bolted fabrics outside being offered for $6.95 per yard (one yard minimum cut), or just $4.95 per yard if you purchase all that remains on the bolt! You will also find Rolls of Quarters (ten coordinated fat quarters) and 3-yard quilt rolls (each containing three coordinated one yard cuts) offered at $19.95 each, rather than their $39.95 regular price! Add wonderful shop samples, and goodie baskets at amazing prices and you see why this is a favorite event. The crowd is usually pretty huge, but so are the savings!

I truly love the new Andover collection that arrived this week. The contemporary floral group, Wander, is by artist Stephanie Organes. This is the graphic and surface design artists first group for Andover, and it is wonderful! Stephanie’s love of nature and whimsical color are evident in each print, from the charming blooms, to the moths, and the geometric line design. I thought I would have something created with the plum, fuchsia, green and gold pieces by today, but that was wishful thinking! I currently have a Wander fat quarter stack sitting on the edge of my cutting mat - I love looking at it, even if I haven’t cut into the pieces yet!

Fabric $12.55 per yard

Earlier this week we had several displays in place for Thread the Needle Day. Each featured some form of hand stitching. Good news, even if you didn’t make it in you can take advantage of the hand technique classes being offered in the next few weeks. With a bit of instruction, hand stitching allows you to work even the most intricate designs successfully. Consider joining one of these ~

I definitely have a new favorite charm pack quilt book. “Just Two Charm Pack Quilts”, new from C&T, is sensational. In the book author Cheryl Brickey shares sixteen new patterns, each in two different fabric combinations (lots of inspiration!). Each is more wonderful than the one before. Cheryl shares pointers for selecting and combining different fabrics, and even how to create your own charm packs. The sixteen projects, most throw size, require two charm packs, additional fabric, and background fabric. My plan is to make Somerville Circle first. The unique design is created with straight seams, but looks like circles - amazing!

Book $24.95

Please note ~ current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday.
