Dear Friends,

I asked my youngest what she would like for her birthday. She’s very organized, I knew she would have a list. Before showing me the list she pared it down to skincare products, a new phone case, and a corner shelf. I said there must be something else, as that list didn’t sound all that fun. So she pulled up one more thing on her computer - washcloths… Black washcloths, as those wouldn’t show stains from removing makeup. Boy, does she know how to have fun. I added them to her cart and finished the order. She called me as things arrived. One box seemed pretty heavy for its size. She’s decided the box's contents, twenty-five black washcloths, might be a “few” more than she needs. We’re now reviewing all the things she can do with them, obviously cleaning cloths, maybe “napkins”, or how about a washcloth quilt?! I fear I am going to get some as a present next birthday!

Hope your week is filled with pleasant surprises,

Mary Beth

I’m sure my neighbors are wondering about me again. I’m spending way too much time kneeling in front of our front garden, without pulling a single weed! All the pictures I’m taking are inspiring blocks for your applique Saturday Sampler. Your next meeting is this week (7-22-23). We will share the new design and kit, review how it is made, and also take a look at new goodies in the shop. I can’t wait to see your poppies from last month!

Don’t forget to add Thread the Needle Day, July 25th, and our annual Sidewalk Celebration, July 29th and 30th, to your calendar. On the 25th you will find little displays featuring hand stitching techniques, and have the chance to win the event goodie basket. During the Sidewalk Celebration you will find amazing deals on gorgeous fabrics, and other goodies, on our front sidewalk and the side lot (if the weather cooperates!). We hope to welcome you to both!

It’s been quite a while since we’ve mentioned new batik arrivals. It’s not because there haven’t been fabulous new ones, it’s because we work the new ones in by color as we take them from the shipping boxes. I’m thinking the new Hoffman ones need a bit more fanfare… The handmade prints include striking flowers, wavy lines, dots, leaves, and swirls in rich vibrant colors. Coincidentally, a wonderful new pattern also just arrived and I pointed it out to Debbie. After a quick look, she selected several of the new Hoffman batiks and got to work on her version of Big Star Braid. Not only did she start, she has the stunning 54” x 74” quilt top done! The pattern includes cutting directions (no templates!) and helpful piecing instructions. The directions even include the information needed to set your pieced star with y-seams or without y-seams - talk about helpful! She loved making it, and we love how it turned out! Maybe you need to make a version?!

Fabric $12.60 per yard, pattern $13.00
