Dear Friends,

I sent in the paperwork to renew my license two months ago. The envelope finally returned from the state, but contained a letter saying I didn’t use the correct paperwork to renew a car registration… Huh?! Because time had passed, and I was back to square one, I next filed the renewal request online. This time the correct paper came back, but I thought it might be time to get a Real ID instead… I went through the list of required documentation and realized the social security card was going to be an issue. Mine disappeared years ago when my purse was stolen as we were setting up a quilt show. As I only had a few days left before my license expired, I gave in on Tuesday, went to the DMV and got a truly “lovely” new license. Later Tuesday we started going through the filing cabinet in our house. The trip down memory lane included everything from baby books, to report cards, to car titles and house deeds. About a half hour in, as my sweetie opened a random file he said, “Hey look at this, do you need this?”. He was holding a pristine social security card, my social security card (I must have replaced it, even though I don’t remember doing it…). Do you think there’s a chance I would get the same woman taking my picture if I went back tomorrow to get a Real ID?!

Unlike me, may you find what you’re looking for in the nick of time this week!

This Saturday (7-1-23) those in our beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler program will meet at 9:00am. We will share the next kit in the series, and discuss some of the techniques that will help you create the block. Your blocks have been looking fantastic - I can’t wait to see your blocks from last month!

QC Holiday Hours-

Closed for Independence Day ~ July 2nd - 4th

Are you ready for picnics and fireworks?! We will be closed at the beginning of the coming week so everyone that works in the shop can enjoy the festivities. We’ll get right back to it on the 5th - see you then!

QC Pillowcase Race

It may seem a bit early to begin talking about our August 5th to 19th pillowcase race, but I figure you might need time to get ready! For those who are new to the event, we don’t actually race across the parking lot in pillowcases (although that would be good for lots of laughs!). The race is “on” when we head to our sewing machines to create as many pillowcases as possible! Each case, made from 100% cotton, child friendly prints goes to a child suffering from a life threatening illness at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. At this point the hospital shares about 500 pillowcases per month - we need to sew a lot faster! There are prizes to be won - for the most pillowcases by an individual and by a group, and for favorite, but the real prize is knowing you brought a tiny bit of cheer to what can be a very bleak setting.

And one more thought - we offer pillowcase kits for sale (they are by the front door). They feature fun prints, and are cut in the size you need to make a pillowcase. Even better, they are only $5.00 each and that entire amount goes to the local food pantry. Just think, you could help two worthy causes in one step!

So many new things arrive each day, I sometimes forget to point out new patterns. Hello Spring just caught my attention - so much so, I started piecing the fun design early this morning! The pattern offers three different options - a smaller and larger version featuring pieced flowers and ladybugs, and a version made up entirely of the pieced flowers. I selected solids like those used in the original quilts, but it would be great in prints, as well. The pattern begins with a few basic directions and then moves on to the cutting charts (broken down by fabric color). I’m a big fan of cutting little by little as I piece, so I was happy to see the cut measurements included on the block diagrams too. The designer has done a great job of making things look a bit curved when only straight seams are involved. There is a good deal of marking diagonal lines, stitching on the lines and then pressing back to reveal triangles - the technique is easy, and so very effective! I’m thrilled with the flower I made this morning, I’m thinking a ladybug is in order this evening!

Pattern $12.00 (We would be happy to cut a fabric kit for you - just let us know in advance and we will have it ready when you plan to visit)
