Dear Friends,

Can you imagine being on the phone with someone when they begin to squeal? That happened when my youngest and I were talking earlier in the week. You might be surprised to know, the one going a bit crazy wasn’t her… We had only been chatting for a few minutes when I heard a loud buzzing sound. A very loud buzzing… It’s amazing how loud a stink bug sounds when it’s caught in your curly hair! I did tell my youngest I was “putting” the phone on the table as I dropped it, and began yelling for someone to help me get the bug out of my hair. Of course, the little dog visiting at the time was the first to come to my rescue. As the bug hit the floor I began begging him not to eat it! Like I said, can you imagine being on the other end of that call? I figure my youngest had to make a serious effort to keep me from hearing the peals of laughter coming from her end!

Wishing you a peaceful week, with no strange sounds,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (5-20-23) we will share block #5 with those in our Saturday Sampler applique program. I drew the bold bloom from a photo I took of the Japanese Iris blooming in our front garden. Their timing was just about right - I was starting to worry they weren’t going to bloom in time! Be sure to bring your completed block from last month to the session so you receive the new kit as our gift!

I want to remind members, the next Simple Whatnots Club meeting will be held next Thursday (5-25-23). The project for this session is Token of Affection. I’ve just begun work on the intricate looking 16 1/2” x 16 1/2” piece - don’t worry, the triangles that travel out from the center aren’t the smallest we’ve ever made, and I will share tips that will help you accurately stitch them. Be sure to bring show and tell to the meeting - we love seeing your amazing work!

Upcoming classes ~

Ok, this one is just around the corner, but there are still a couple spots remaining in the session - maybe you can make it?!

Machine Binding

Saturday ~ May 20th ~ 1:00pm - 3:30pm

Are you frustrated with traditional binding techniques? Do your hands ache after hand stitching the binding to your quilt backing? There’s another way! In this class Kathie will share her proven, totally “by machine” method. You will be as impressed with your results as judges have been when they looked at Kathie’s work! You will need to bring a small quilted piece to class so you can work the binding steps during the session.

Fee $21.00 (class supply list will be provided when you register for class)

Stella Bag

Saturday ~ June 10th ~ 11:00am-3:00pm

Bonnie’s marvelous version of the Stella Bag, her class sample, features a trendy Kaufman cotton and flax print. The print adds great style to the 14” x 10” x 3 1/2” bag. By cutting before class, and with Bonnie’s guidance during class, you will have your Stella finished (or nearly finished) during the session - yes, from the handles, to the zipper top, to interior pockets, and key fob! It’s sure to be put to use the minute you finish stitching!!!

Fee $24.00 (please note - pattern and supplies are required for class - supply list, with cutting directions, will be shared when you register for the class)
