Dear Friends,

My youngest was having “one of those days” earlier in the week. You know, the kind of day where little things go wrong, lots of little things… Late in the day, she decided she would “hit” refresh on the day. She would clean and do the laundry while singing, probably loudly, thus making everything “fresh”. She reached for her AirPods in order to pull up “Legally Blond’, her favored soundtrack for such days. She would have sworn she put her AirPods right there… She pretty much tore her entire apartment apart looking for them. With great sadness, she decided she would have to buy new ones (which would mean eating ramen for a month to afford them!). A friend who had visited on the weekend asked how she was doing as they talked on Tuesday. She admitted it wasn’t going great, as she had lost her AirPods and had to have them both for work, and to distract herself on the walk to classes. Her statement was met with silence… He fessed up that he had put “his” AirPods in his book bag before leaving her apartment. When he tried to use them on the train they wouldn’t sync up with his phone… Later he found a second set in his bag, his set. He didn’t tell her because he didn’t want to make her mad. His plan was to sneak them back in place… I think she gets lots of credit for not screaming at him!

I hope everything you misplace this week is in the first place you look!

Our 2023 Saturday Sampler projects continue to move along. The beginning of the month pieced session will be held this Saturday at 9:00am, while the applique session will be held next week, and the end of the month pieced session will be the following week. April has proved to be a true scheduling challenge - thank you to everyone who was so very gracious as we attempted to deal with an array of date and event conflicts. If you can not make the meeting this week, you still have time to stop in to show your block in order to receive the kit as our gift. We can’t wait to see your block.

Southwestern PA Shop Hop

Passport Premiere Party ~ April 15th!

I know I’ve mentioned it twice already, but I don’t want you to miss it! Passports for the 2023 Southwestern PA Shop Hop go on sale on the 15th (still $5.00 each). If you purchase yours at Quilters Corner that day you will be able to select a free “wordy” fat quarter to remind you of the hop theme, Crossword Cruisin', while you wait for the event to begin June 19th. And yes, if you can’t make it in on the 15th, we will still have passports for sale in the following weeks.

Earth Day - April 22nd

As more and more stores move away from plastic merchandise bags, fabric totes are in order. To celebrate Earth Day this year, we will share a free tote pattern when you visit on the 22nd. The bag shown here is just one version we’ve made - wait till you see the one Nancy made featuring the coffee print fabrics - super fun, and super functional!

Oh my gosh - they’re truly everywhere! Here are just two of the new fabric lines ~

wild-blossoms image

I know I shouldn’t have favorites, but my favorite fabric from Quilt Market just came through the door! Wild Blossoms, Robin Pickens newest release, is spectacular! The bright, cheerful yellow, orange, red, green, blue and violet flowers that make up the group are irresistible. You must check out the ombre - I don’t remember ever seeing something like it. Both the fabulous blooms and colors change across the width of the piece. We’re busy dreaming up projects for the print - you’ll have to show us what you come up with!

Fabric $12.99 per yard

See these fabrics online...

The Hoffman Challenge batiks have also arrived! The fifteen prints in the collection were selected because they have been the best selling designs, your favorites, over the years. Hoffman decided to present the prints in blue, as they have a long history revolving around water - they are known as surfers, as well as creators of fabulous fabric. Be sure to pick up a booklet detailing the challenge parameters - so many categories, so many prizes - we would love to see your entry included in their challenge show!!!

Fabric $12.60 per yard

Dowel Handle Tote

Saturday ~ April 29th ~ 12:00pm - 4:00pm

Renae carried her show and tell pieces to Simple Whatnots club in an absolutely fabulous large tote last week. Now you can make your own version of the Dowel Handle Tote in this new class she is offering! Select your favorite fabric (consider using heavier pieces like the cotton linen blends, or upholstery fabric, or work with regular quilt weight cottons) for your unique version of the tote. Maybe even consider making more than one fabric combination, as the handles and bottom board can be moved from one to the next. The class fee includes the pattern, dowel handles, and the bottom board.

Fee: $28.00 (supply list will be shared when you register for class)

Cartonnage

Friday ~ May 5th ~ 12:00pm - 3:00pm

Becky assures us you can learn Cartonnage, the art of making stunning boxes covered with fabric. The fun process involves pre-cut chipboard pieces (when covered they become as sturdy as wood!), fabric, and glue. You will learn the fun and relaxing technique while creating a 5 1/2” x 5 1/2” x 3” square box with a lid (you need to see the box up close - it is absolutely perfect!). Once you have learned the technique, the possibilities go on and on. Instruction, precision cut chipboard and poster board pieces for the box, and all the necessary tools and supplies (other than fabric) needed to complete the project during class are included in the class fee.

Fee: $52.25 (you will bring two coordinated fat quarters - 100% cotton, quilt weight fabric in all-over prints, and rotary cutter and matt to class)

Machine Piecing Fundamentals

Saturday ~ May 6th ~ 1:00pm - 4:00pm

If you started quilting with very little instruction (like I did!), you may have come to the conclusion that there must be a better way to do things! You will receive a pre-cut kit when you arrive for class, allowing you to focus on the finer points of machine piecing. We will cover proper machine tension, stitch length, accurate seam allowance, proper pinning, ironing, and general piecing guidelines for straight and bias edges.

Please bring to class ~ sewing machine in good working order, extra machine needle, neutral color thread, pins, scissors, seam ripper, paper and pencil

Fee $23.50 (includes pre-cut kit for 12” x 12” finished block)

Two other upcoming classes have just a few open spots left. Let us know if you would like to snag one of the spots in ~

Cat’s Cradle ~ April 15th - 10:30am - 1:30pm

Chatelaine Wallet ~ April 22nd - 12:00pm - 4:00pm

Good news - the Finleyville Food pantry is back up and running in a new location. While a bit further south, the plan is to continue to serve those they have been helping over the past years. They would love your support at the moment (and really, they always love your support). Both food and monetary donations are most appreciated.

Please note ~ current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday.
