Dear Friends,

We have been in our current location for a huge portion of our 35 years in business (I believe this is our 29th year in Finleyville). You would think I would know every tiny detail about the building… Some of you have heard me lament (that’s such a nice word for whine!) about some of the little idiosyncrasies the building holds. On Saturday a crowd was enjoying Bonnie’s foundation piecing class when all of the irons went cold. I let her know it wasn’t a problem, I would head down in a minute to fix the issue. I started in the front fuse box, and then moved to the one between the two rooms when I didn’t see a tripped breaker. I unplugged irons, plugged irons in, moved irons around - still cold. At that point I admitted defeat and called my sweetie. Good thing he’s such a gracious person. After fixing the problem he came upstairs to tell me the tripped breaker was in the third fuse box (and clearly marked as the one for the outlets on the west classroom wall…). Wait, three fuse boxes?! Who puts three fuse boxes in a space the size of our classrooms?! I swear I’ll remember where to look the next time this happens, or maybe one of you should remember, just in case I forget…

Wishing you a week with plenty of power to fuel your machine and iron!

Oh my goodness, so much is going on here this Saturday (3-25-23)! At 9:00am those in our end of the month pieced Saturday Sampler program will meet. We are in the middle of cutting fabrics for your third kit at this very moment. During the session we will share the kit, information that will help you create the new block, and we’ll take a look at some of the new things that have arrived in the shop. We can’t wait to see your blocks from last month!

We will also host our Stash Management group at 10:30, and share a display of the next steps in the Christmas Cheer sampler - we’re never bored around here!

Southwestern PA Shop Hop

Passport Premiere Party ~ April 15th!

I’m excited to share that there is going to be a Southwestern PA Shop Hop this year from June 19th to 24th! The hop will include eight shops, each featuring their version of the event’s progressive quilt. I think you are going to love both the quilt and the event theme this year, Crossword Cruisin’. As you would imagine, you will work on a quilt themed crossword as you travel from stop to stop! Passports for the event make their debut April 15th. Purchase yours at QC that day (they are still just $5.00) and select a free fat quarter from our very “wordy” Premiere Party assortment! You will receive a free fat quarter (along with the progressive quilt patterns and the chance to win prizes!) at each stop during the hop, as well. How can you go wrong when free fat quarters are involved?!

It’s a bit gray outside at the moment. Maybe you are looking for a bit of a stitching challenge to brighten your day? I have two opportunities to share!

Hoffman Challenge ~ To celebrate 100 years, Hoffman has created a special edition of their famous challenge. This time participants are required to use five of the fifteen glorious, blue batiks included in the challenge collection. The bolts are due to arrive soon, but you can get a look at them now, and place an order for those you find irresistible (ok, I think they’re all irresistible!). As you might expect, there are entry rules for each of the four challenge categories (you will find this information in the pamphlet we have in the shop). Prizes, both monetary and Aurifl thread, will be awarded in all five categories (quilts - this category is broken down further by technique, clothing, accessories, youth - for those 18 years old or younger, and best use of Aurifil thread). Why not start working on your design now so you will be ready to stitch as soon as the batiks arrive?!

# ColorMeKaffe Challenge ~ This challenge is for those that love Kaffe’s prints and want to show their love by wearing them! To participate you construct a garment, or outfit, using at least three different Kaffe prints and then post a picture wearing your outfit (or you can make something for a child or friend and get them to wear your creation!). Your work needs to be shared by June 19th in order to be part of the competition. Once again, there are lots of prizes to be won. And just think, whether you win or not, you will be able to wrap yourself in spectacular color and print! Check the Free Spirit website for more details.

I can’t resist sharing the new Sacramento collection by Whistler Studios. It’s a wonderful group of tiny prints - low volume prints that will add tons of interest to any project. You will find petite flowers, geometric designs, vines and leaves, even roosters, and scissors in cinnamon, red, blue, green and deep gray in the stack of bolts on the front table in the shop. I saw them used as the background for a pattern featuring pieced stars - they were perfect! I think Villa Rosa’s Stargazer can be made with the same look!

Fabric $12.90 per yard, pattern $2.00

We made a serious “oops” when scheduling the Chatelaine Wallet class! We put it on the last day of the Three Rivers Quilt Show - it would be pretty hard for us to be in two places at once! The revised date is Saturday, April 22nd from 12:00pm-4:00pm.

Please note ~ current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday.
