Dear Friends,

March Madness brackets have always been just a statistics problem for my youngest. She found out that if you do some research you can do pretty well in the pool, even if you know nothing about, and don’t really care about basketball… Imagine my surprise when she texted a picture of where she was yesterday evening. The shot was from a high (ok, very high) seat at an NBA game. I wondered if someone had bribed her with junk food, like we did to get her to go to baseball games when she was younger… As it turns out, she told a friend with an extra ticket she would go to the game if the other person offered the ticket couldn’t go. She was surprised to hear the other person didn’t really want to go… Not sure why she, of all people, found that surprising. Our questions for her were did your team win, did you have fun, could you see the ball? She replied the game was exciting at the end, even though her team lost. As far as seeing the ball, she would have needed to remember her glasses…

Wishing you a week of out of the ordinary experiences, with glasses in hand,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (3-18-23) those in our applique Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. We will share the next block kit in the series (a daylily this time) and tips that will help you create your version of the rectangular block. Don’t forget to bring your completed block from last month in order to receive the kit as a gift! If you didn’t have a chance to finish the block, or will miss the session, no worries - the kit will be just $5.00 plus tax when you have a chance to stop for it.

I mentioned the Three Rivers Quilt Guild show briefly last week. I absolutely must mention it again, as we now have their show raffle quilt on display in the shop! (shown above) The stunning piece is a marvelous showcase for this year’s design theme, Drunkards Path.

I love the newest arrivals from Dandelion Fabrics. In fact, I love the whimsical characters from “George, Gertrude, Mallory and Maude” so much I have already begun a fun little quilt with them! Inspired by a design from “The Skill-Building Quick & Easy Block Tool” book (I changed things a bit from the pattern - the adaptation directions will be ready for you soon) I’ve created funky, animal centered Churn Dash blocks using most of the taupe, sage, blue, orange and pink prints. Fun to stitch and fun to look at - perfect!

Fabric $11.10 per yard, book $19.95 See the fabric online...

Chatelaine Wallet

Saturday ~ April 1st ~ 12:00pm - 4:00pm

One of our very talented instructors, Bonnie, made her version of the Chatelaine Wallet the moment the trunk show went in place several weeks ago. Good news, she is now ready to share a class for the multi-featured wallet! The petite bag can be used as a wallet, purse, or fanny pack. It features an adjustable, removable shoulder strap or cross-body strap, a 4 1/2” x 7 1/4” cell phone pocket, eighteen credit card pockets and a sturdy, pretty magnetic closure. The techniques you learn during the session are sure to come in handy as you make additional Chatelaine wallets, and other bags. A bit of pre-class cutting means you will be able to start right in when you arrive. Register soon to reserve your spot!

Fee: $24.00 (pattern and supplies required)

Spring Quilters Day Out

Friday ~ May 12th ~ 10:30am - 4:00pm

How about joining us for a fun day spent stitching in a truly special spot?! On the 12th of May we will be heading to a professional workroom, housed in the ballroom of a restored Victorian style home. The day features a kit and instruction for a 52” x 67” quilt, lunch, and goodie bags. The kit for “Sisters”, the project created for the day, is included in your fee. You may select warm or cool color batiks for the foreground, border and binding in your kit (you will provide background, which will help to make your quilt unique). I can’t wait for Quilters Day Out - hope you can make it!

Fee: $129.00
