Dear Friends,

Sometimes texts from my darlings leave me perplexed… A recent favorite is, “Do you think I could use toilet bowl cleaner to bleach denim?”. Umm… I texted back it might work, but was liable to make holes and yield a very splotchy outcome. To say nothing of the fact that it would be best not to get it on her hands. I suggested actual bleach, to which she replied she didn’t have bleach, but she had toilet bowl cleaner. She had picked out the hem of a new pair of jeans that fit, other than being too short. Thus, she was going to try to remove some color from the tiny bit around the bottom. After a few more texts, she called and we talked for so long she didn’t have time to try dipping the jeans in toilet bowl cleaner. Today she wore them as is, strange color hem and all. A friend mentioned how much she liked the jeans, and the special design on the hem. Interesting how one person's yucky looking hem was another's designer moment…

Wishing you a week filled with beautiful color, and no bleach!

QC Christmas Club

Wednesday ~ March 15th ~ 10:30am

Mountain Views, from a recent American Patchwork and Quilting issue, is the next project we will tackle during Christmas Club. Charisma Hortons fun wintery scene finishes 60 1/2” x 72 1/2”, but we’re going to discuss using portions of the design in other ways - ways that will make perfect gifts (and after all, that’s the theme of this club!). We will also share other projects you could make as gifts. We have a great time each month - we would love to have you join us!

Fee $6.00 per session (includes a fabric gift each session!)

Saturday (3-11-23) marks the end of our Among Brenda’s Quilts and Bags trunk show. The twenty pieces that make up the show are truly wonderful. From the petite Chatelaine Wallet (which Bonnie will offer as a class next month!) to the extra roomy Voyager Bag, each bag is well designed and presented in fabulous fabric combinations. Try to squeeze in a stop here before they head to their next destination - see the bags and don’t forget to enter the door prize drawing for a kit for one of the bags (drawing will be held on Monday).

QC Pi Day

No surprise - we will celebrate on Tuesday 3-14!

I love to add circles to my pieced and appliqued projects, and thus, couldn’t let this day pass without attention! As most realize, Pi is the mathematical constant that represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. 3.14 is the rounded down number - it actually goes on, and on , and on,... While the constant was defined centuries ago, Pi Day was first celebrated on March 14th in 1988 at the Exploratorium with tea and pie. In our case, we are going to celebrate with a little bit of quilting education. At 10:30am on the 14th we will offer a class that looks at designs featuring circles, how to draw the designs, choosing fabrics and accurately piecing curves. You will also have a chance to win a quilty prize, and even enjoy a short Pi/pie quiz!

Please call, or stop in to pre-register for this free class - space is limited (you will need to bring paper and pencil, ruler, scissors, and pins to class - you may also bring your own sewing machine or choose to share one of the shop machines with other students in the class, fabrics will be provided).

The bold circular design block was made with directions in Jen Kingwell’s Circle Game book.

Be sure to take a look in your QC date book for info about things going on in the shop this month - how about Jewel Day? Also, be sure to add the Three Rivers Quilters show to your date book. There will be lots to see on March 30th, 31st, and April 1st at the Hollywood Casino at the Meadows. Gorgeous quilts, vendors, demos, Granny’s Attic, and raffles make this a must attend event!

I would swear an issue of Block magazine arrived recently, but another new issue arrived today! The pages contain directions for terrific quilts (some using special rulers, but others using those you most likely already own) and lots of little instructional moments - the tips for machine applique look really helpful. Also, Jenny and Pat Sloan discuss reinventing a quilt, making a design in completely different fabrics - worth thinking about and trying. You’re sure to find lots to inspire you in the issue. May we set one aside for you before they’re all gone?

Magazine $7.99

We add new classes all the time. Here are two you might want to join ~

Cat’s Cradle

Saturday ~ April 15th ~ 10:30am - 1:30pm

The Cat’s Cradle ruler will be put to great use in Darlene’s newest class. The triangles in the striking piece are created by cutting just squares and rectangles - you’ve got to try it! During class Darlene will share tips for selecting and using scraps, as well as tips for accurately piecing, adding borders, and binding (wait till you hear her invaluable binding tip!). Just think, your scraps could look as good as hers!

Fee: $24.00 (supply list will be shared when you register)

Featherweight and 301 TLC

Thursday ~ March 16th ~ 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Your vintage treasure deserves the very best care. The good news is that with a bit of instruction you can provide much of the tender loving care yourself. A bit of Featherweight history will begin the session and then we will move on to hands-on instruction in machine maintenance. Did you know there are over 30 places on the machine you are supposed to oil at least every few weeks?! You will also learn which care issues are best left to professionals. Please bring your machine, manual if you have one, your machines’ tiny screwdriver, sewing machine oil and lubricant, and a bath towel on which to work when you come to class.

Fee: $29.50
