Dear Friends,

I was always impressed by how efficient my youngest was at disappearing with a book. She would quietly read for literally hours on end. The other day in one of her classes the professor asked who knew what the Praetorian Guard was. He was met with silence, but noticed a thoughtful look on her face. When he said it looked like she knew, she said she must not be right, as she couldn’t see the relevance to the topic at hand. Once he told her she was right, he asked how she knew. Being a quick thinking student, she mentioned her undergrad minor in classical civilizations, rather than her childhood (and adulthood!) love of Percy Jackson books! I can only imagine some of the other “reference material” she has cited over the years!

I hope, like her, you are able to make time for a favorite book this week.

See you soon,

Mary Beth

On Saturday (11-19-22) our applique Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. We will review the information needed to create the new rectangular block (can you believe we are on block #11?!) and share information about all that is going on in the shop. Members will even get a sneak peek at our 2023 sampler plans - I would hate for anyone to ever be bored!

The local food pantry is most grateful for your support. If you haven’t had a chance to visit yet this month, don’t forget to bring them a donation when you stop in to see our From Our Table displays. You still have a little time to vote for your favorite (we trade you ballots for pantry items, which then gives you chances to win a kit for the favorite) before the lovely installations head home with staff members.

It might be a tad early to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, but Happy Thanksgiving! So everyone here can mark the holiday, our holiday hours are 10:00am-3:00pm on Wednesday, November 23rd and we are closed on the 24th. We will see everyone again on Friday the 25th - keep in mind, this is a pretty nice spot to visit on Black Friday!

Pins and Needles Day

Saturday ~ November 26th

Pins and Needles Day marks the day in 1937 that a pro-Labor Broadway musical of the same name opened. While our celebration is focused on the advances made in pins and needles, those we like best for the pieces we make, I will think about the seamstresses that were part of the original musical cast as I share them with you. You will see, and be able to test, different types and have a chance to win a goodie basket that certainly makes a point!

New fabrics continue to come through the door at an amazing pace. I know you don’t want to read about every single one, but I just have to share Jewelscape. The nine new pieces, the work of Dan Morris Design, present a glorious kaleidoscope of color. Each shade is an ombre, featuring a very subtle color shift across the width of the fabric. I imagine the faceted images that make up the print cut into tiny bits, adding both color and visual texture to my next quilt! Fabric $12.00 per yard (please note - we have made 1/2 yard stacks of these prints, rather than fat quarters, so you have the entire subtle color shift! Half Yard stack $55.75)

There are “gifty” items for quilters sprinkled all over the shop. Maybe you should send Santa in to check out the baskets made by women in Ghana, or the candles or embroidered towels made by women in our area. Another idea would be a funky new notion for your stocking. The new mat cleaners look a tad strange (one for your rotary mat, the other for your wool pressing mat), but boy do they work! If Santa still isn’t sure, we can always recommend a gift certificate!

Please note ~ Current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday. If you are unvaccinated please wear a mask when you visit.
