Dear Friends,

Some of you have stood in Quilters Corner as half the lights went out. I always say, I can’t imagine another place where power comes from more than one point, leaving a portion of a place in darkness… No imagination required on my part any more! I was terribly excited earlier in the week to be in a class with Marti Michell at Quilt Market. As she said, “Let me show you how quickly and accurately the Log Cabin pieces can be cut” the room went dark. Like here, it wasn’t all the lights in the convention center, just the ones in one classroom hallway (a hallway that is probably five times the size of the shop!). Can you imagine how a creative bunch responded? Fifty resourceful quilters held up the flashlights on their phones, and Marti went ahead with the lecture! We did manage to convince her not to cut in the dark! The lights did eventually come back on, but I figure that’s not as important as all of us having the makings of a great Quilt Market folktale!

Wishing you a week of light and joy!

On Saturday (11-5-22) those in our beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. During the meeting the next block kit, and directions for making the piece, will be shared. I can’t wait to show you the runner Debbie made using three of the pieced Saturday Sampler block patterns from this year (she made duplicates - they aren’t the ones she plans to use in her quilt!). The lovely runner shows how valuable the block-of-the-month patterns can be - they can be creatively used in project after project!

From Our Table

November 5th - 19th

We would love to have you visit during our annual table setting display event. This is our fun way to support the local, independent food pantry. We make unique table runners and toppers, and then add items we would use with them in our own homes. You get to vote for your favorites by trading donations (pantry items or monetary donations) for ballots. There are prizes to be won, but more importantly a local charity to help - you make a huge impact!!!

New Classes! ~

Machine Piecing Fundamentals

Saturday ~ December 3rd ~ 1:00pm-4:00pm

If you started quilting with very little instruction (like I did!), you may have come to the conclusion that there must be a better way to do things! You will receive a pre-cut kit when you arrive for class, allowing you to focus on the finer points of machine piecing. We will cover proper machine tension, stitch length, accurate seam allowance, proper pinning, ironing, and general piecing guidelines for straight and bias edges.

Please bring to class ~ sewing machine in good working order, extra machine needle, neutral color thread, pins, scissors, seam ripper, paper and pencil

Fee $23.50 (includes pre-cut kit for 12” x 12” finished block)

Evergreen

Saturday ~ November 19th ~ 10:30am - 1:30pm

This striking holiday runner is created with the Crazier Eight templates. The wide range of background fabrics and tree fabrics in the class sample make for a very elegant home decor piece. You will do a bit of piecing (of the background prints) before class, so you can get right to cutting with the templates when you arrive. The class will cover organizing the pieces as you cut, piecing the unique shapes, and ideas for finishing your runner.

Fee $21.00 (supply list will be shared when you register for class)

Fandango Table Topper

Monday ~ November 28th ~ 10:30am - 1:30pm

The concept for this project instantly caught my attention - a fabulous runner with rounded ends, yet no curved piecing! The piece is created from 2 1/2” strips, and setting fabric cut with both a straight ruler, and a Creative Grids 22 1/2 ° triangle. In class we will focus on accurately cutting, and stitching the segments that make up the runner. This is a terrific project for one of the Jelly Rolls in your collection, or consider cutting your own strips, as I did from the Kim Diehl prints used in my version of Fandango.

Fee $21.00 (supply list will be shared when you register for class)
