Dear Friends,

I’ve always said I can answer almost all quilting questions over the phone, if need be. You’ll notice the “almost” in the sentence… My sister wanted her place to look lovely for an important event and decided tiebacks for the drapes would help. I selected an elegant fabric that would complement the drapery colors, got her approval, and made them up. As I packed them up, she emailed and asked if she could call later, as she wanted to ask me something before I put them in the mail… She had decided she also needed a fabric backdrop for a piece of artwork - how hard could that be, right? My youngest and I pulled lots of options, all deep rich colors. Approval was not forthcoming this time. My sister instead selected a vibrant yellow batik from our website. I might have questioned the selection a “bit”, but being a gracious sister, I hemmed the yellow piece, adding a rod pocket to the top. When I put things in the shipping box, I tucked in a piece of the drapery tieback fabric as a  “surprise”. You’ll be happy to know her event was a huge success, everyone getting their picture taken in front of the artwork - backed by the elegant tieback fabric (unobtrusively hemmed and hung with tape!). I don’t always get it right on the phone, but I keep trying!!!

Wishing you a week of novel solutions and perfect fabric selections!

I love the seasonal groups being created by In the Beginning Fabrics. I’m fairly certain I shared the fall version several weeks ago. Because of the way shipping is at the moment, the winter version has just arrived, too! Once again, a panel and a stripe print are complemented by smaller scale coordinates. The blue, green, red and white prints are just as upscale as the first two groups, but now feature a bit of whimsy, as well. Cheerful, sweet, frosty snowmen gaze between the collection’s snowflakes - they managed to put a smile on my face today! You will also find another new pattern made to show off the prints. The included wall hanging, table runner and pillow designs are next up at my sewing machine - I can’t wait to start!

Fabric - prints $12.00 per yard, solid $8.25 per yard, panels $8.00 each, pattern $8.00

Rotary Cutting 101

Saturday ~ October 15th ~ 1:00pm-3:00pm

The rotary cutter may just be the most helpful quilting tool ever invented. The concept is simple - a circular blade used in combination with a cutting surface and ruler. The execution is not quite so simple! Class will cover safe usage, care for the tool, and a whole range of techniques that will make your cutting more efficient and accurate.

Fee: $15.00 (please bring to class - rotary cutter with new blade, rotary cutting mat, ruler, and 1 yard of fabric to use when practicing)
