Dear Friends,

I scurried to the back of the shop last week, after arriving late (those pesky construction zones!). I found another staff member already there staring at the electric panel. Her day had started the same way mine had, and at that point her frustrated comment was, “I know how to turn the lights on!!!”. She certainly does, but if the power is off, that doesn’t matter! Because of the strange way the building is wired, power from two different directions, we had only three working lights.  Another staff member let us know the firetrucks had just left the spot down the street where the offending transformer had been shooting sparks and flames into the air. The power company's prediction - three and a half hours until we would be back to normal. The guests already at the door had traveled quite a distance. With promises of caution, they began to shop. They then began to sing - a little serenade, as it was awfully quiet… Minutes later another guest arrived, bringing a smile and sunny disposition. We were kidding about her bringing light to go with the music, when the lights went back on, three hours earlier than expected! I tell everyone you guys are the best - thanks for every time you have shared a sunny smile and a bit of joyful noise!

Hope your week is filled with light and laughter!

This Saturday (9-24-22) those in our end of the month pieced Saturday Sampler session will meet at 9:00am. We will share the next block in the series, block #9, as well as a bonus block. As you can imagine, there will be lots of construction information reviewed, aÍnd lots to see. Don’t forget your completed block from last month (if you bring it to show the new kit is free!). If you are unable to attend the session your kit will be here after the class and will be just $5.00 plus tax. Your blocks are looking wonderful - I can’t wait to see the new ones!

This Saturday also marks the beginning of a new Stash Management series. The ten session program will include lots of information about organizing your sewing space, patterns that will put your collection to use, and best of all, lots of show and tell. Good news - the series remains just $10.00 for the year! Pre-registration is required.

Next Thursday (9-29-22) we will host our next Simple Whatnots Club meeting at 10:30am. I’m excited to say, the quilt for this month is larger than usual. Close Quarters uses a wide range of Kim Diehl’s prints in blocks that finish 14” x 14”. Yup, you read that right! This one will make a marvelous throw in the room that features all your tiny, previous Simple Whatnots projects. All the visual impact of club quilts, but bigger!

QC Block-of-the-Month Show and Tell!

Sunday ~ October 16th ~ 1:00pm

We are thrilled to be welcoming you back for a block-of-the-month show and tell session. It has been so very long… We hope you will bring your version of one of the projects we have shared over the last several years. There will be little goodies for those who share their work, as well as plenty of encouragement and praise!

Please note - pre-registration required (space is limited)

New class!

Scrap Sensation - Cat’s Cradle!

Friday ~ October 7th ~ 10:30am-1:30pm

The Cat’s Cradle ruler will be put to great use in Darlene’s newest class. The triangles in the striking piece are created by cutting just squares and rectangles - you’ve got to try it! During class Darlene will share tips for selecting and using scraps, as well as tips for accurately piecing, adding borders, and binding (wait till you hear her invaluable binding tip!). Just think, your scraps could look as good as hers!

Fee: $24.00 (supply list will be shared when you register)

Rotary Cutting 101

Saturday ~ October 15th ~ 1:00pm-3:00pm

The rotary cutter may just be the most helpful quilting tool ever invented. The concept is simple - a circular blade used in combination with a cutting surface and ruler. The execution is not quite so simple! Class will cover safe usage, care for the tool, and a whole range of techniques that will make your cutting more efficient and accurate.

Fee: $15.00 (please bring to class - rotary cutter with new blade, rotary cutting mat, ruler, and 1 yard of fabric to use when practicing)

We wish we could share every new fabric collection that arrived in the shop this week. Probably not a good idea in a short letter, as ten new collections arrived!

That being said, fans of Lazy Girl Designs might appreciate a quick look at the collection Joan curated for QT Fabrics. The bold aqua, teal, turquoise, blue and purple prints are perfect for any project - from the purses Joan is known for, to quilts, table pieces, and garments. Be sure to check out the panel that is part of the group - everything you need for two Runaround bags (front, back, pocket and lining - just add zippers!).

Fabric $12.00 per yard, panel $12.75

See these online...

Please note ~ Current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday. If you are unvaccinated please wear a mask when you visit.
