Dear Friends,

With the Pillowcase Race in full swing, my youngest and I have been pinning and sewing all day everyday! This week my oldest son and his children are visiting, which means we have 6 additional helpers. While the older children are quite adept with sewing machines already (love for sewing must be genetic), we have also found jobs in the assembly line for the 5 year old. He has taken it upon himself to identify exactly which pillowcases are perfect, which need a different header, and most importantly, which ones he needs to keep! Using a sewing machine is one skill, but he’s going to be extremely skilled at fabric shopping!

If only I could be as decisive with my fabric shopping as a five year old!

Happy stitching,

Mary Beth

QC Pillowcase Race Begins!

August 6th - 20th!

Pillowcases are starting to roll in - some cute, some trendy, and some just plain pretty - all wonderful! We would love to add ones you make to the mountain we hope to share with Children's Hospital via Ryan’s Case for Smiles. The sewing is simple and fast, but the impact is so very great.

After you make the pillowcases you may find yourself with a pile of scraps in child friendly prints… Have we got an idea for you - how about another charitable effort? Tiffini did research and found the Children’s Home in Pittsburgh could use bibs. She then found a pattern, from Fishsticks Designs, that you have permission to use for the project (visit their website for the pattern). The big kid size bib from the pattern is perfect for the children. The outside can be made from the same fun prints you use for pillowcases while the back is best from a water resistant fabric. If you find time to make some you can drop them off at the shop (we will be sure they get where they need to go). Just think - another fun project that makes such a difference!

Alaska

Saturday ~ September 3rd & 17th ~ 11:00am-1:00pm

Edyta’s Alaska quilt is a spectacular, “must make” project. The striking design is made up of triangles and diamonds - lots of triangles and diamonds! Instruction in fabric selection, cutting, accurate piecing, and pressing of the intricate pieces will help you on your way to a true heirloom.

Fee: $38.00 (pattern and supplies required - list will be provided when you register)

I love the new Party Crackers pattern that arrived today! The striking design is far easier to create than I imagined. The “stitch and flip” technique used for the triangles in the piece makes for fast and easy construction! It’s perfect for a contemporary fabric collection, but I bet it would be lovely in historic style prints as well.

Pattern $10.00

Marcia Derse is one of my favorite designers and I am so excited that we got her brand new line, Random Thoughts! This absolutely stunning new line features a gorgeous rainbow in true Marcia style. This line is 33 bolts of funky fun from vibrant fuchsia, to forest green, and even black and whites - they are all truly fabulous! All of these new fabrics definitely have me planning more sewing projects than I will ever be able to finish!

$12.45 per yard
