Greetings!

We tend not to realize all our children learn about sewing just by being surrounded by fabric and notions. My youngest received a rather panicked text from a friend recently. He was on his way to a job in the required black dress shirt, but hadn’t realized the shirt had a pocket (which strangely, was against the rules). As you might guess, the question was how to get the pocket off ASAP. She first asked if he had a seam ripper (definitely wishful thinking on her part!) and explained what that is, and how one would be used. The response, “No, I have a pocket knife”. She pointed out that it didn't sound like the best tool, so he said he would just rip it off then… She convinced him to ask around, as she was in a different city at that moment. No luck on finding a seam ripper, but he did manage to get the pocket off with the pocket knife. I figure he’s obviously talented and should definitely be taught to sew! Maybe I will send a seam ripper for each of her friends when she heads back that way!

Hope your week is filled with interesting teachable moments,
Mary Beth
This Saturday (7-2-22) those registered for the beginning of the month pieced sampler program will meet at 9:00am. We will have a new block kit for you, and lots of information to share about things going on in the shop. I can’t wait to see your blocks from last month. Our Border Creek Mystery group will meet at 10:30 Saturday. This month’s installment will get us one step closer to a stunning quilt!
New ~ QC 2022 Summer Sampler!
Starts Saturday, July 2nd!

How about a new project for summer?! The sixteen 9” x 9” blocks in the summer series are pieced (after lots of requests for a pieced version this year!). The series will include two block patterns and two fat 1/8’s (to get your stitching started) each week for eight weeks. The colors for the packet fabrics are inspired by a bright, cheerful floral (and of course, you can and should add fabrics from your collection, too!). You will receive a small piece of the inspiration print when you register for the program. New kits will be released each Saturday during the program. You will add 1 1/2 yards of background fabric, and setting fabrics to the mix. The setting directions for the 60” x 60” quilt, which can easily be enlarged with borders, will be shared in week five. A little stitching each week should make for an enjoyable summer, and a fun quilt!
Fee - registration $5.00, weekly installments $5.00 each
Take a quick look at your QC date book. We have a little patriotic treat to share if you stop in this Saturday with your date book.
Christmas in July
July 21st - 23rd
Holiday fabrics have started to roll in (much to my surprise!). We are creating samples from the new pieces, and working on ways to display the mountain of festive fabric. There will be things to see, and prizes to be won by mid July - great fun in the summer, with a frosty feel!

There are so many holiday pieces at this point, they are beginning to fill one of the displays toward the back of the shop! The newest additions are from Dear Stella. The collection includes a pretty floral, and a range of whimsical small prints in soft blue, green, red and black. I’m a real fan of the plaid in the collection. I used the floral, and several Grunge colors in my version of one of the runners in Doug Leko’s newest book. “Tabletastic! 3” was worth the wait - his designs and directions are wonderful. As soon as I get this one quilted, it will be on to the next!
Fabric $12.90 per yard, book $24.99
Please note ~ Current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday. If you are unvaccinated please wear a mask when you visit.
