Greetings!

My youngest has become pretty adept at garment construction. She doesn’t necessarily approach things exactly like I would… Her current advice to everyone is to select something other than upholstery fabric for your next garment. When I got home yesterday, she was on hour seven in the making of a cute little lined top with a funky print she adores. As I entered the sewing room she proudly pointed out that she had rethreaded the serger. It took me another half hour to realize she was using my original Baby Lock, as it was the first one she saw when she started the project. She wouldn’t have had to deal with as many broken threads if she had used the Bernina she had to step over to get to the Baby Lock… The top looks fantastic, except for the fact that the fabric began to shred when she tried it on (thus, no more garments from upholstery fabric for her). Talk about frustrated - it was to be the star of the perfect outfit for her next trip. I would suggest another attempt with the fabric fused to a woven interfacing, but I’m pretty sure she can’t face another seven hour stint!

I hope all your projects are made with lovely 100% cotton this week!

This Saturday (6-25-22) our pieced Saturday Sampler “session” will be offered as an installment pick up. You may stop in any time during the day to show your completed block from last month, which makes the new kit, block #6, free! You will also find a display showing the different construction techniques used in the block, and a note detailing what is going on in the shop and the block making details. I’m very sorry I won’t be there to see your blocks - how about bringing #5 and #6 to show next month?!

Our Stash Management session will also be shared as a written “meeting”. You will find club notes, and a free pattern waiting for you at the shop. I love the block that makes up the scrappy offering this month - the pattern shares options for all different sizes - this is a good one!
QC Market Party
June 30th - July 2nd

Party lecture - Thursday ~ June 30th ~ 7:00pm (pre-registration required)
Thought another quick reminder about our upcoming look at quilt world trends might be in order… By the end of next week we will be able to share all we have learned as we researched the newest fabrics, books, patterns, and notions. There will be prizes to win and treats to enjoy (the fabric type of treat!) - hope you can stop in at some point!
I was terribly excited when I realized the box I was opening the other day contained fabrics by watercolor artist Sue Zipkin. This time birds, sweet flowers and tonal textures in teal, green, and raspberry, with touches of purple, cover the fabric. I’ve purchased some of each tone-on-tone print for my applique projects and have selected a bit of everything for a new runner pattern (did I mention I really like these?!). I’m not positive I can make them work quite as planned for my version of Echo Point. Hopefully I will have it finished by Market Party (do you think I need to have it quilted and bound to call it finished?!!!)
Fabric $12.10 and $12.60 per yard, panel $9.25, pattern $10.00
Please note ~ Current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday. If you are unvaccinated please wear a mask when you visit.
