Greetings!
Ok, who ordered this weather during our Pillowcase Race?! I haven’t seen this much rain, or thunder and lightning in a very long time. Our power has gone off three times in the last two weeks. This is starting to put a serious dent in my pillowcase making routine! My sweetie always points out I could use a treadle or hand crank machine from our collection, but I’m thinking that wouldn’t be anywhere near as efficient as the serger… Only one day left in the race - cross your fingers for good weather!
Hope you find time to work on your special projects this week (maybe a few last pillowcases!).
Happy stitching,
Mary Beth

I had a plan for the blocks for this month’s applique Saturday Sampler, but modified it after heading to the Erie County fair. As always, we started with the animal barns. The pigs were so darn cute… So, those registered will find a squash, Blackeyed Susan, and pig block this month! Those registered in our summer block of the week will also be able to pick up the packet for the last installment, and the setting directions for the project.

QC 2021 Pillowcase Race!
The end of our 2021 Pillowcase Race is in sight. This Saturday we will tally the results and announce winners in several categories. What a race it has been! You will find stacks of pillowcases along the top of our fabric shelves, and virtually everywhere else in the shop! Boxes and bags hide under just about everything, and are prominently “displayed” in front of the fabric shelves. You would think I would be bothered by the chaos, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth! It’s fantastic! We can’t thank you enough for the sewing you have done to bring a little color to the rooms of young hospital patients in Pittsburgh’s Children's Hospital.
There is still a bit of time left in the race - keep that machine humming!

QC Christmas in August
August 26th -28th
Yes, this event used to be Christmas in July - my how things have changed! By the end of the month we hope to have much of our holiday fabric in place, along with lots of patterns, books and models that showcase the collections. We will offer technique demonstrations each morning, and door prizes each day. I think you’ll enjoy your visit, leaving with lots of ideas to jumpstart your holiday stitching!

Speaking of the holidays, how about a quick look at a couple holiday fabric groups?

|
Cranberries and Cream, new from Moda, includes elegant prints in deep reds, cream and taupe. The floral, paisley, and small starburst designs are classic in spirit, yet oh so current in style. I have cut into the group for my version of Fig Tree’s Northern Lights. The design is part of their Cozy Christmas Duet pattern (Christmas Tree Farm is the other, coordinating, project). The small quilt, 18” x 18” or 20” x 20” depending on the setting, is made up of nine pieced star blocks. The directions begin with tips and project notes, then move on to cutting directions, and clearly written and illustrated piecing directions. I cut the pieces for all the petite blocks today - we’ll see how far I get with the piecing before your next visit!
Fabric $11.99 per yard, charm squares $10.99, pattern $10.50

New holiday fabrics arrived from Studio E last week, as well. The pieces work well together, even though they are from two different designers. The contemporary watercolor style designs (offered in a turquoise, peach, red and green palette) are by Clara Jean, while the funky Christmas dinos are from Miriam Bos. Yup, you read that correctly - Christmas Dinosaurs! I’m sure that’s a piece you didn’t know you needed, but how can you resist?!
Fabric $12.30 per yard
