Greetings!
My youngest offered to read a bedtime story to her nieces and nephews earlier this week. She was exhausted, and figured she could put them right to sleep with a little “required reading” from her current class. She got started, then realized it wasn’t going quite as planned… Who would have thought the crowd, ages six to twelve, would be completely captivated by notes on the “Prison Industrial Complex”? When they began asking thought provoking questions, she found studying was going great, bedtime - not so much!
Wishing you interesting conversations, and plenty of rest this week!
Mary Beth

QC 2021 Pillowcase Race!
August 7th - 21st
I have to admit, this is the most important part of this letter! I want to remind you that our pillowcase race starts tomorrow! Every pillowcase that you make (and donate) from kid friendly, quilt weight cotton fabric will be shared with a child being treated for a life threatening issue in Pittsburgh. Sadly, the need for your creations continues to increase… One of our favorite young pillowcase makers found himself the recipient of one recently - I’m stitching even faster so he won’t be worried about us making fewer while he recovers! I’m thinking I can make six each day of the race - what is your goal?! There will be prizes for the most created and for our favorite, but know that the real prize is the knowledge that you are bringing a tiny bit of cheer to the room of a young patient!

I’m trying to decide which new fabric collection to use for “Colorful Confetti” from the current American Patchwork and Quilting issue (it arrived yesterday!). Seeds, new from Cori Dantini, features little white specs similar to the magazine fabric, while Color Weave has a more subtle pattern. Both groups come in the warm and cool tones needed for the piece. As usual, the magazine shares complete, well illustrated directions. At the end of the runner directions you will find a photo of an additional color option. Not only is the option in a different color and print style, the blocks are set differently. Now I think I want to make the baby quilt version… So many decisions - and that’s just the first pattern (out of nine) I’ve looked at in the issue!
Magazine $6.99, Seeds fabric $10.90 per yard, Color Weave fabric $11.80 per yard

I can’t believe how many holiday fabrics arrived in the past week - there are far too many groups to share in this short letter! That being said, I just have to give you a quick look at Starflower Christmas. The stunning watercolor style pieces are by Laura Muir, from the Create Joy Project. Icey blues, warm reds and vibrant greens flow across the elegant floral, snowflake, tree and striped designs of the group. They will lend timeless elegance to any project!
Fabric $11.99 per yard

Be sure to watch for our next online letter. We will share more holiday collections, and details about our 26th - 28th Christmas in August event. Yup, it used to be in July, but everything is different this year!
