Greetings!
I was talking to my youngest when she said, “Ouch, that stings”. You know I had to ask… She told me she had a scratch she mistakenly sprayed with bug repellant. I pointed out that she was inside, not necessarily a place I would recommend bug spray. She went on to explain, she was in her Zoom class when a bug took interest in her. She started flailing her arms and the professor thought she was raising her hand to answer a question she hadn’t even really heard. That was the point she pulled out the bug spray... Can you imagine what professors must have seen in Zoom meetings over the past year?!
Wishing you a “piece filled” week, with no annoying, buzzing distractions.

I’ve had lots of fun getting ready for this Saturday. I’ve been drawing and stitching like crazy - so many applique pieces to finish! The day will begin at 9:00am with a version of our Saturday Sampler Applique meeting. We are going to see how a meeting upstairs goes. Chairs will be further apart than they were in the past, and we ask that you wear a mask if you are not fully vaccinated. If you can not make the meeting, you will still be able to pick up your Saturday Sampler kit for free if you show your completed blocks later in the day. The fourth 5” x 12” applique block in our summer 2021 block of the week program also makes its debut on Saturday (yes, you can still join the program - it won’t be too hard to catch up!). Like I said, lots of stitching going on in my house, but sew much fun!!!

QC Sidewalk Celebration
Saturday ~ July 24th ~ 10:00am-4:00pm
Sunday ~ July 25th ~ 12:00pm-4:00pm
It’s hard to believe our Sidewalk Celebration is only a little over a week away! Next Saturday and Sunday you will find wonderful goodies, offered at unbeatable prices, lining the front sidewalk and even creeping into the space to the side of the shop! Fabrics will be shared in yard cuts, fat quarters, scraps, and even “buy/by the bolt” (which means all that is left on the bolt for one very low price!). You will also find patterns, books, shop samples, and our signature gift baskets - lots of choices, lots of fun!

QC Pillowcase Race
August 7th ~ 21st
It’s definitely time to get your plan together for the 2021 Pillowcase Race! Gather your fabrics, and maybe some team members, so you will be ready for the August race. You never know, this could be the year you win prizes for the most, or favorite pillowcase. The need for your wonderful creations hasn’t diminished - to say the least… Each pillowcase created and donated will be shared with a child being treated for a life threatening condition in Pittsburgh. Pillowcases made from quilt weight cotton, in child friendly prints, are appreciated more than you will ever know. Please pre-wash the fabrics you use, as the pillowcases will be washed in the hospital laundry. We would be happy to show you the easy method we use to create the pillowcases - ask for a quick demo at the cutting table!

Good gracious - there are new fabrics everywhere in the shop!

I’m tempted to snag all of Tim Holtz’s new Abandoned II collection! The incredible designs hark to vintage typography, but are drawn from Tim’s imagination. The subtle linework designs (reminiscent of ledger pages, vintage text,...) are accented with vibrant colors - teal, jade, fuchsia, plum, orange,... I can’t decide whether to create the piece Free Spirit is offering on their website (Curious by Nature) or whether to try something different. No matter what I decide, the prints are going to be the star of the quilt! Fabric $12.50 per yard

Holiday fabrics have really started rolling in. I mentioned Moda’s Americana Holiday Essentials in the last letter and now am happy to share that Christmas Holiday Essentials are here. The group includes petite prints that are, as the name states, essential. The tiny dots, stripes, candy canes, trees, Santas, snowflakes and snowmen in cheerful red, green and black will add a touch of whimsy to your holiday projects. Be sure to take a look soon - these won’t last!
Fabric $11.99 per yard

I’ve already cut into the pieces for our version of a new pattern, Trim the Tree. The pieced 16” x 40” runner features a pieced double star, tree blocks and border. It has gone together quickly with the help of the clearly illustrated, full color directions. I should have been working on other things, but I just couldn’t help myself! This is just the first of many holiday models that will be featured in the coming month - watch for more details in future emails!
Fabric $11.99 per yard, pattern $6.95 (this one sold out before we managed to send this letter to you - more will arrive next week!)
