Greetings!
I love planning the potted plants that fill our deck each summer. We started with all red flowers this year, but after the last visit to the nursery it became a mix of red, pink, purple and yellow (did I mention I like lots of pots on the deck?!). One beautiful new pot has three different types of coleus in it. They were growing at an amazing rate, but then seemed to be getting rather spindly… Yesterday we figured out why. A robin family seems to think the pot is perfect for their nest. It appears Momma robin sits in the middle of the plants, and pulls the interior leaves off to make more room! I’m pretty sure this is almost as bad as the spot they chose last year. I’m now trying to decide if we should let them continue with nest building, or encourage them to pick a new spot. I’m not sure their family will be able to handle the boisterous crowd that makes up our family!
Wishing you a week of happy surprises!
Mary Beth

We’re getting packets ready for this Saturday - not that you would be surprised… You will be able to pick up kits, and letters for both your applique Saturday Sampler and Bliss projects when you stop in on June 19th. Do read the letter accompanying your kit - it includes information about the in person sessions we will be holding going forward - so very exciting!

The Southwestern PA Shop Hop is just around the corner (June 25th - July 3rd) - do you have your passport?! We have only a few left for the fun “Gnome on the Roam” themed event! The passport (still only $5.00) details some of the entertaining things you will enjoy as you travel to ten local quilt shops during the hop. We have our project featuring the cute hop gnome panel almost done, and we have lots of other gnomie goodies in the works. You need to check out Jill’s version of “Gardening Gnomes” (shown above) when you next visit. Who would think the little guys could be made with Edyta’s “The Seamstress” fabric collection? Only Jill would think to use them - and boy, did she use them well for the charming little guys! More gnomes will make it into the shop soon - keep watching for them!

New for summer 2021 ~ QC Exclusive
Garden Walk Medallion ~ Block of the Week!
Begins Saturday June 26th!
While walking through the Bronx Botanical Garden, I realized the layout of some of the perennial gardens resembles that of medallion style quilts… From there it was a quick jump to designs for a new summer series! The Garden Walk Medallion program will include kits for nine applique sections (a 12” applique center square, and eight 5” x 12” applique blocks), and directions for the pieced and plain borders of the garden inspired quilt. The bold, brightly colored blooms featured in the quilt are pulled from my imagination - totally funky and fun! The first kit will be ready on June 26th (others premiere on Saturdays through August 21st - a new design each week!) - we would love to add you to the list of medallion makers!
Fee: $5.00 per kit - nine kits in the series (includes patterns and fabrics for blooms - you add background, stem and setting fabrics)

Of course, there are other new flowers in the shop, too. Most are on new fabrics, like those of Cottage Bleu from Moda. We have the beautiful blue hydrangeas and butterfly prints from the line, as well as several tone on tone pieces that compliment them perfectly. The Robin Pickens prints are incredibly tempting. I have already cut into them for one of Donna Robertson’s 3-Yard quilts - what will you make with them?!
Fabric $11.49 per yard

We will be adding classes to our offerings slowly over the coming months - and boy, are we ever excited to be able to do so! You will find the information shared here in our online letters, and in our subscription newsletter. I’ve decided to add them slowly, as I still remember the experience of canceling everything last March (talk about sadness…). So, up first ~
Modern Fabric Bowls Class!
Saturday ~ July 10th ~ 1:00pm-4:00pm
These novel, 3-dimensional art pieces are great fun to make (or at least that is what Bonnie tells me!). I never would have guessed how it’s done… Bonnie will work through the process with you, (sharing information about stabilizers, stitching and finishing) on the 10th, leading to a finished project that very day! Once you have learned the technique, you will be able to make bowls of different sizes, and you will be able to incorporate quilt blocks into your pieces - so many possibilities! These will be a fabulous addition to your home, and great as gifts! Bonnie is a most gracious, knowledgeable and thorough teacher - perfect for the first class added to the schedule!
Class fee: $18.00 (fee is for instruction - book and fabrics required for class) - to celebrate classes being offered again, you will receive a $10.00 gift certificate toward the purchase of supplies when you register and pay for your class. Please register soon, as class size is limited.

Several weeks ago I mentioned the arrival of the Old Made fabric collection by J. Wecker Frisch. It's not an overstatement to say, I love the quirky prints. At that point, I didn’t mention the pattern featuring the collection, as it had not arrived. It’s finally here. I’ve now started cutting and piecing Cabin Chills. Each door in the unique house quilt features a fussy cut segment from one of the panel prints. Scary Millinary Mary is the first character to grace my blocks - don’t you just love her? I can’t wait to stitch the next! While the pattern calls for 10” squares, we have gone ahead and cut kits that include “chubby 1/8’s” (pieces that are approximately 10” x 18”), and the other fabrics that are required. This one might leave you “in stitches” as you sew...
Pattern $15.00, Kit $67.00 (kit includes pattern)
