Greetings!
Last month my youngest suggested everyone teach the young people in their families to sew. This month she’s thinking a little focus on cooking might be good, too… The lessons could begin with, “remove the plastic wrap from food before putting it in the oven”. Her friends’ meal prep last week led to good news - the smoke detectors in the apartment she is renting next semester work. And a bit of bad news - the apartment now seems to smell like melted plastic… I figure by the time she moves in other city smells will be stronger than the burned plastic wrap. For a girl who likes to spend the warmer months in the woods at camp, this will be a very different summer!
Wishing you new experiences, and only pleasant cooking adventures this week.
Mary Beth

Oh my - there is so much to get ready for Saturday! Those registered for our pieced Saturday Sampler, My Favorite Color is Moda, Dear Jenn, and Simple Whatnots programs will find either packets or club letters waiting at the counter. Guests are making wonderful pieces in each group. Below is a sample of the blocks (there is also another colorway for this project!) from Bright Hopes, our 2021 pieced Saturday Sampler. I’m always amazed how much we accomplish when working little by little throughout the year!

We have shared the opportunity to win some really neat prizes over the last two weeks. Congratulations go to winners Karen S.- pre anniversary celebration fat quarter stack, Virginia S. - Passport Premiere Day goodie basket, Judy S. - Jelly Bean Day basket (strange, I swear there was no need for your last name to begin with S to win…). This Saturday (May 1st) we are sharing the chance to win one of 13 little prizes during our Anniversary celebration. It’s worth dropping your name in! We will post the winners list on the back door in the shop - hope the list includes you!

Also this Saturday, during our Anniversary Celebration, you will be able to watch quick demos on our front walk (keep your fingers crossed for sunny skies!). Between 11:00am and 1:00pm we will share helpful tips and details for foundation piecing, felt flowers and fabric bowls. The topics are certainly varied - the projects are all delightful!

I made this cute little gnome wall piece to mark the first day passports were available for the 2021 Southwestern PA Shop Hop (passports for the June 25th to July 3rd event are currently available from any of the 10 participating shops!). It was perfect to introduce the “Gnome on the Roam” theme. I had so much fun working with the design from “Paper Piecing All Year Round”, I decided to share a look at the technique this Saturday. Some sewists find paper piecing to be too much work, but I find it to be the very best way to piece intricate designs. Anything with really skinny points, and odd angles is best done with this method. The booklet shares basic paper piecing information, and patterns for 24 blocks - two per month for the entire year. I began with the gnomes, but plan to move on to the butterflies, dogs, snowmen,... In addition to the block designs, the author shares seven projects to showcase the adorable blocks - great as gifts and decor pieces!
Book $21.95

Several new Northcott lines arrived this week. My favorite is September Morning (I know I shouldn’t pick favorites…). Every inch of each print looks like an intricate oil painting. The warm red, gold, yellow, and brown hues are reminiscent of a sunny fall day - I’m going to make Solstice (I’ve seen the pattern worked in September Morning and it’s fantastic!) with the prints, so I can remember the beauty of fall throughout next winter! Talk about planning ahead!
Fabric $12.80 per yard
